Belt wandering

I've been noticing my belt on my 2014 RT-S is wandering from the flange to the left edge of the sprocket. I've checked the tension and set the alignment. This is not after reversing but just seems random. Things to check? Concerns? It never is off the edge. Hmmm?

wandering belt

1. check to make sure the front sprocket bolt is tight
2. alignment of the rear sprocket to the front is off
3. make sure the rear shaft bolt is torqued properly
if this don't fix it might need to go to the dealer

Curious..!!

Did this start on its own or was work done on it..?? Setting the tension and alignment can be tricky. When torquing the axle things can change. :agree: check belt, sprockets front and rear for debris stuck in the teeth and tightness...

A wandering belt can indicate a serious issue. Don't put off getting this properly diagnosed.

As mentioned, the front sprocket may be the problem. It can be rear wheel bearings or lose axle bolt. It can also be an issue with the front sprocket output shaft or even engine motor mounts. Though I've never heard of it on a Spyder. Worn swing arm bushings can also cause this condition.

But something is moving that should not be.

Let us know what you find.

:agree: This sure sounds like a, "Go see your dealer" type of thing...
Good Luck; please let us know what is causing this.

I also have a wandering belt

I have a 2014 RT S with 4400 miles that the belt is wandering on, My dealer knows about it and is waiting for a reply from BRP as to what they think it might be, every time I ride it, when I get off and look at it (the belt) its in different place on the rear sprocket, sometimes its up tight against the flange and sometimes its out at the edge :dontknow: When I find out anything I will pass it along on this thread.

In my experience with adjusting my own, if the alignment is off slightly, it will walk. I have been using a Cricket to adjust mine and it is very close to where it should be tension and alignment-wise. I have been noticing that if I back up a little and then stop, the alignment will change slightly. As soon as I go forward it goes right back into the proper position. Not sure if that has any bearing on the issues you are having, but I will say that it took several attempts to get the tension and alignment correct. It would appear to be right, then I would ride it and it would be off. Among the other things already mentioned I would suggest checking the tension with a cricket to see what it is. Good Luck!

On my 2011 it would walk when I backed up. It would move to the outside edge of the sproket. When I went forward it went back to normal. Just in case you are noticing this it is not a problem. I think my after market tensioner made it even more obvious.

I checked the front pulley and seemed tight. Belt tension was on the low side so set it to midpoint of the spec. Did a good alignment. Took a short ride with lots of curves and it stayed put. Maybe that was it?!

If that is your fix then congratulations!

Whenever you back up a Spyder; the belt is going to walk on the pulley...
It's not "The Nature Of The Beast"; it's just the nature of the BELT... :D
