• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Belt tensioner clearances.....

I'm thinking of installing a belt tensioner from the advertiser on this site and can't seem to find references in the archives as whether the tensioner will clear cat heat shields and belt guard. Anyone who's been there and done that, I would appreciate any benefit of your experiences. Thanks. smoky

I have the Belt Tensioner and the SpyderPops belt guard both installed on my 2012 RT with no problem. not sure about the Cat guard but someone here will be able to tell you.

I ended up waiting and getting the 2013 RT Limited.. Would I still benefit from this or was is handled with some of the other improvements?

How difficult is the installation of the belt tensioner? Can a non-mechanic (me) do it with ordinary tools? Does the Spider need to be lifted?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Installation..!!

is fairly simple following the instructions provided. Takes 20 minutes or so and you don't have to raise the roadster.. Good luck you'll love the difference..!!

Not sure which belt tensioner you are looking at nor what model Spyder you have. The Smoothspyder tensioner installation on the RT is not for the faint at heart. You will need to drill two mounting holes using a 12-18" drill bit. The RT will have to be raised up and placed on floor jacks to install this tensioner. Not sure of the process for other Spyder models.

Baker Air Wings has a tensioner that is simpler to install. I can't comment on how well the Baker tensioner works since I have no experience with it. I installed the Smoothspyder on my 2012 RT Ltd and really like it.

Smooth Spyder

I installed the Smooth Spyder from Captain Jim and love it. I spent about one hour to install. I used 2 drive on ramps from walmart to get the front up and a floor jack for the rear. It was not difficult.
