So does our Spyder belts move when we back up? What about turning left, turning right, accel, de-cell and all that?

Well the only way I could answer the question was to do a test:

It ALWAYS moves when going backwards, with or without it being in gear ….. and I saw a video ( a different one than you posted and was much closer to the belt / sprocket, so the movement was more noticeable ) of an RT going forwards at various speeds with a camera attached so that the belt was visible while moving …. it showed the belt moves ALL the time …… Mike hyea:

A nicely done video - thanks for that Dave. I guessing the what we are seeing in that belt movement is deflection, mainly the swing arm.

Actually it stayed more stable than I thought it would. What tension is your belt set at? How fast were you traveling? It would be interesting to see what the effect of speed and tension have in relation to how it moves. I wish you would have done some reverse riding at the end. You started out with it almost against the flange so we don't see any significant movement while you're backing up at the start.

Yes, it runs normally just about the width of a credit card from the flange. So when I backed out of the Garage, it seems to move over against the flange. It was a simple test, not exhaustive in detail and I'd guess each one of us might have slightly different results based on age, tension, and all that other stuff.

Someone said "they move all the time" and that seems to be the case in my video.

Still, I surmise there really isn't much to be concerned over! My belt tension is, and has always been, on the lower end of the tension specs so that might even make a difference.

Just glad to get out and ride in January! Hey, we are going again tomorrow down to Table Rock Dam, have some coffee and just relax.
