Beautiful loaner RT LTD...

Well, my bike is in the shop for the last of my overheating issue...Dealership replaced the Temperature sensor, Radiator, and Thermostat at the request of BRP and sent the parts back to BRP for inspection. In the meantime, I have been given this new 2013 RT Limited delivered with 160 miles on it. I am envious of the size of the frunk, the auto-adjustable suspension, and the auto adjustable windshield. The only knock I have on this beauty is that she stalled on me twice on the way to p/u my son from school (5.7 mile trip). I'm sitting in the intersection with a green light (and a line of cars behind me) and she won't restart!!!

Finally got her started, got to his school, and after both of us are in the bike, it won't start again!!!
Got it to start after 15 mins sitting in the heat with full gear (armor jacket, helmet, gloves, etc.), drive home and decide to kill the engine and try to restart. Long story short, I discovered the ignition switch (not sure this is what it's called, but i'm referring to the red switch used to start or kill the bike when it's running) was not making a good connection.

The Spyder was dying on me because I had touched (not flicked it to kill the bike...just barely grazed it) the switch with my thumb when driving. Furthermore, it seemed as if it has a loose connection because it took several flicks off, then back on before the bike would finally start...once it started, the bike will continue to run fine if I don't touch the switch again and shut it off with the key and not the switch.

Sent an e-mail to the dealer about the faulty switch. I'm thinking it's a fairly easy repair. Other than the frustrations aver the bike not starting, the thing rode like a dream. really enjoyed stiffening up the suspension with the touch of a button. Not sure if it has been done already, but i'd love to do a floorboard swap for the ones on the RT too. Anyone know of an ST conversion using RT floorboards? Looks like it might work...

Oh, one more thing...you RT owners are spoiled in luxury. Although I LOVE My ST Ltd, I could totally see my next spyder being an RT. I'd love to road trip on that thing :2thumbs:

Yup ..... Teddy is one spoiled dog, Road-Trip'n on his Red Sled, that's for sure

Glad your dealer is taking care of your issues with your ST & them giving you an RT as a loaner, as many dealers balk at such a thing, so it sounds like you have a really good dealer trying to take care of you

Just thought I'd also point out & share that I've read many posts on here & I think Lamontster (site admin) even posted about New RTs having issues with stalling & BRP put out a bulletin discussing that the issue is considered 'NORMAL' as the engine parts are not yet broken in & it has something to do with that. Once the Spyder is properly 'Broken In' (600 Miles???) most have reported never having the issue again

So it could just be the faulty switch you found, or it could be a combination of the two, but either way, Teddy just thought you should know ;)
:ohyea::yes: ENJOY THE RYDE :yes::ohyea:

Admittedly, I have had several loaners. Didn't realize all dealers weren't like that until getting on this forum.
I dig the doggie seat on the back of your RT...I have a small dog I want to take on my Spyder too (since he rides in the car with me all the time) but aren't sure of how to keep him safe & contained up there. Mine is 12lbs which looks a little bigger than yours.

The Spyder kill switch can be very sensitive. It does not need to be moved all the way to kill the engine. The one on the loaner sounds super sensitive, though. No easy fix...it requires replacement of the entire RH control assembly.

Tony,
:lecturef_smilie: You'd better be careful, or you'll be cleaning out garage space for a new RT pretty soon! :2thumbs: :D
Glad to hear that they're taking good care of you!

:agree: Mine is just the opposite. You have to press hard to kill the engine. The cable from the switch goes a long way before it ends and everything between has to be remove for access. I am waiting for my 14K service before I get replaced.

We have a 2012 white RT Limited and love the bike. Also couldn't agree with you more about what fantastic tourer it is.

And with that being said, tomorrow we are picking up our new 2013 ST-S. That way we have the BEST of both worlds.

You are one lucky guy! Right now I'd take any loaner

MAN...you really do have the best of both worlds!!!
I'll be on the lookout for a used Spyder...preferably an RT, but it'll have to wait for a bit. Rock on, Carl!!!

FYI If you check craigs list in the San Diego area there is a 2012 RT Limited (lava color) with trailer listed for $26K. It has less than 1000 miles as I recall. I talked to the guy and he is willing to go as low as 24K. Total deal! But be aware. He is selling it because of DPS limp mode issues that he says the dealer has fixed but since he had the issue so many times he does not trust the bike. It has a 3 year extended on it too.

I just checked and the listing is not on craigs list anymore. He seems to not renew it right away. It was there about 4 days ago. I bet it is still for sale. Keep checking it as I am sure he will renew it.
