• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am seeking comments on using the beaded mats -- like those sold by BeadRider.

Do they really improve comfort, cooling and the like?

Are there any shortcomings?

Thanks,
Bill Gargan

Ditto...

I'm tired of getting bike rash on hot days....Really want to try these and find a good inexpensive but quality source.

I have a set but for the stock seat and I really liked them. They seemed a bit slippery when I first got them but I finally got used to them and, I think, they got used to me. They are great in the summer.

I gave them up because I bought a Corbin seat and they don't fit. I think mine are the 13 inch version. I haven't used them since I got the Corbin at Gatlinburg.

I had some before I got my new Russell Day Long seat. The answer is YES, they definitely help with comfort. I did find on the very long rides that it actually helped to put them on and take them off occasionally, it helped change up the position for the ride on the long haul. As for riding in the heat, they definitely helped keep me cooler. I kind of wish I still had them for when I have to ride to work in uniform on the hot summer days. I really liked mine.

I've got them on the stock seat. Love them! I too found them slippery at first. But I got used to them. As for keeping me cooler? Absolutely!!! And no butt fatigue at 100 miles!

Another good thing is that in the rain, they keep you up and off rain that pools on the seat. Best money I've spent on the Spyder.

I've had them on mine for a year. I think they're great especially for long rides.

:agree:
Deb let me use them a couple of times on our first long trip and decided I needed some for myself. They helped get me through some long days in the saddle prior to us getting our Russell seats. The beadriders really helped with cooling and gave a different riding feel that was Welcomed on our long trip to the Spyder Homecoming that first year. If I still had the stock seat, I would still be using the beadriders.

I have a beaded mat that I've used on my last 3 bikes, and now have on my RTS. I've forgotten where I bought them, but they are not plastic, more like a coated wood bead. They do allow some air to circulate under the bum and a small movement changes the pressure points. On a hot summer day they seem to dissipate the heat build up. For about $20 IMO, agood investment.

Irish,

Can you tell me what size you have on your seat? I found the sizing chart that says it should be 14"x14" for the rider, but yours looks to be more triangular? Maybe it's just the camera angle.

Thanks,
Skidz

So.... Question. Are those of you that switched from the stock seat and not using the beads any more saying that the corbins and the day longs, etc don't have the sweat/heat build up like the stock seat???

The 14"/14" fits perfectly.

Yep, plus they wouldn't fit as well on the Russell seats.

It's the angle...they are 14" square

For $65.00-$70.00, I'll pass...just get the comfort seat for the extra dough...for 20-25.00, I'd give them a try...

Just a quick dissenting opinion here:

I had the driver and passenger BeadRiders, and actually ended up selling them to Deb (before she had her new seat).

I wanted to like them, really. Reminded me of the ones I had in my 1971 Plymouth Duster.

However,

1. In New England, it just never really got all that hot for all that long to warrant them, plus

2. The lovely bride kept feeling like she was "rolling" off the seat on turns. I didn't feel that so much, but when she "rolled" she dragged me along off with her! :yikes:

Spyder riding is exciting enough (with our current steering and accelerating concerns) that we didn't need any added "fly by the seat of your pants" effect.

Like many things here, if there is any way to try before you buy, do it.

(BTW, We have the comfort seat now and use the AirHawk on occassion.)

The comfort seat seems to be a nice compromise between price and comfort...I know there are better options out there, but they tend to cost a lot more...I'm just looking for something that doesn't allow for sliding and won't be crushing me manhood! I'm not a big fan of the stock seat...ouch! for long rides...

I have a set that I move from bike to bike - even on my Corbin seats.

On my LT and Valk, I can ride all day without stopping - vs 100 miles max without them. Can't say about the Spyder - I have yet to ride it that far.

Taking them on/off is a plus too - it does change the seating position and feel on long trips.
