I used to live in moose country in Ontario and was also a volunteer fire fighter. As such, saw first hand the results of moose/vehicle interactions and frequently both were losers.
The thing that always bothered me about moose on the road at night was that they seemed to absorb head lights even much more than deer. It was like a black hole for head lights with nothing coming back.
I used to "joke" that if I was killed on one of our roads that it would probably involve a moose and not another vehicle.
