Battery Tender Connector as Standard Equipment?

First of all, I believe congratulations are in order - I just picked up my first Spyder last night, a black 2014 RS SM5! The pics I took in my garage at night are crap, so you'll have to wait until I get it in the daylight this weekend.

So, let's get right into it: I stumbled upon this while admiring the under-frunk:


I haven't seen anyone mention this. Is this new for 2014? Was this unintentional, did the factory/dealer install this for their purposes & just not remove it? I don't even know where the battery is yet. Are these proprietary Battery Tender quick disconnects or is this standardized?

The laptop icon is interesting. I am guessing that's the BUD's port?

It would be super cool if a USB port was available to the average user to give the user additional info about the system!
Most "intelligent" devices these days have that.

agree...especially something powered...like a charger!

Figured out where the battery access is and sure enough, it is a battery tender connector. The '14 owners manual doesn't seem to mention it, so I guess I got lucky with a free "dealer installed option".

My 13 ST-L also came with the battery tender plug already installed.

My dealer (Lifestyles Honda) added a charge plug to my 14 before I picked it up. I think you will be safe to assume yours did as well. I have had mine torn apart several times already and there is nothing else that looks like that plug, lol.

On my '13 RT that is where the BUD's connector is. It is a 6 pin, I think, Deutsch connector pushed down into a hole in the back edge of the frunk module. In the OP's pic of the '14 it looks like the BUD connector may be the white connector, unless that is the connector for the frunk lid release actuator. But no USB connector there that I know of. Too bad.

I think it is the standard connection for the 12v outlet as previously stated, I've just looked at my 2013 ST Ltd that comes with the 12v outlet as standard and I can't find that plug in the same position as your photo, so I'm guessing the reason is that mine is already fitted to the 12v outlet.
Off course I maybe wrong.

The connector for the power outlet is on the left side close to the battery and consists of two 1/4" spade connectors. I installed an ordinary after market power outlet with spade lugs in my '13 RT and just pushed the OEM connectors on.

Our 2014 RT-S came with the tender pigtail in the frunk. Dealer said they added that to their spyders.

That would be cool if this is an unannounced feature. I'm picking up my new 2014 Limited at Spyder fest. I'll have to check that out. I bought off the net, a matching connector for the battery tender that plugs into the 12v plug in the trunk. Makes it really nice to just plug in there during the winter.
