Battery storage ?

Good evening All,

Us folks up North that do not use their Spyders in the winter, store them away.

Question : The battery do you take it out of the Spyder and leave it on a trickle charge over the winter.

What else should be done before winter storage.

You can go either way. There are storage procedures in your manual. Stabilize the fuel and fill the tank to prevent condensation, put it on a battery maintainer or pull the battery, air up the tires, put out rat bait or take other rodent prevention measures. Do not cover in a unheated storage. Change the oil if not using synthetic. For long term storage there are additional measures. My methods differ from BRP's slightly, but they work for me with my collection of cars and bikes.

What happens if you cover it in unheated storage?

moisture from condensation gets trapped underneath the cover and rusts stuffs.

I would strongly suggest NOT covering a bike if you can park it inside...
Vermin like to find dark places to hide... :shocked: Don't make your bike look too tempting! :yikes:
It's easy enough to give it a bath when it comes out of storage in the Spring.

I'm from Quebec, the Province of Quebec that is, I live about 20 miles or 30 odd K from Montreal.

I was thinking of storing the trike in a shelter see site :

i use a battery tender that plugs into the cigarette plug in the trunk...it works great...concidering what it takes to remove the battery this is a piece of cake...

What I think about that Canadian Tire shelter?
1. I think it's better than simply outdoors.
2. Just make sure you anchor it to the ground properly, so it won't be "gone with the wind."
3. I would also think about repeling your neighbour's cats, if you have any. I heard they really like slipping on Spyder's seats. Seriously. Check this out http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...know-this-is-a-weird-question&highlight=mouse
4. And finally - mice and rats. I hear moth balls help.
