• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Kind of thinking that that as a gauge would be a pretty handy pice of info to be displayed on the dash.

Maybe but probably not.

They stopped putting them on cars because the slight drop that indicates an early warning of a failure is so small that nobody noticed.
Same with idiot lights. By the time the light comes on, it is already too late.

A digital display might be helpful.......but then we would have a thousand MORE repeated messages from owners who don't know how to interpret the readings. ;)
 
The only time a digital volt meter would be worth the trouble is reading the voltage when cranking the engine. If it reads at least 12.6V just sitting it has a good charge but is no indicator of how it will perform under a load. When cranking the engine if the voltage dtops below 10V the battery is shot -- a poor man's simple load test. If it reads less than 10V you are going to hear it cranking slower anyway and you don't need a gauge to tell you the battery is heading south. This assumes that you routinely put it on a tender if you aren't riding for some time.

Yeah, if you disconnect the analog fuel and temperature gauges so you can use the digital ones in the multifunction gauge, what to you use in their places, been thinking on that for some time with nothing I really want to invest in. Blank caps look a bit stark to me.

It is not the only time at all.

That is the time when a weak battery will show up the best but if it sits for a few days and is down below 12.6 (or it's normal power-up value), that can be a good clue that the battery is getting weak too. I don't need a voltmeter to tell me that the engine is cranking slower than normal but some people might.

Then.....there is the alternator.
When running down the road, I'm assuming the voltage will be at least 13.2, since it is at least that on every other vehicle I've had.
If you notice that you are back down around 12.5 with the engine running, then you need to see what's wrong with the charging system.........before you shut it off and are surprised when it won't start again.
