Battery life?

My wife and I are new to this fun game. We have a '12 RT-L and a '13 RT-S. I asked the dealer to replace the batteries, but they said they checked out in good shape. I was frankly surprised. How long have batteries lasted in your experience?

Heat kills batteries faster than the cold. Hence, living in a very HOT climate mine are replaced every three years without question.

When we sold our original RS/GS this Spring, it had the original battery. From 08. Not bad

MY 2012 RS still has the original battery....no issues yet.

I've had mine four years this week and the battery is still quite strong. I occasionally forget to turn the key off, but it charges right back up OK. Very hot climate here, too, but I'm parked in carport shade most of the time. But as I've just rolled up 72,000 miles, it's not parked in the shade all the time! :yes:

From my time here and seeing the many posts.....it seem 3 to 7 years. Mine on the RS 2012 made it 6 year some that were not set up correctly came in under the 3 years. There are a lot of contributing factors.... electronic add ons, charging and discharging, weather amount of ryding time etc. I, with the help of the kids, worked my battery hard and it did well. A well set up YUASA is still the best IMO.....:thumbup:

We just put the third in our 2012RT. Original was replaced in 2017 so the second lasted only a little over two years - which is disappointing. Hopefully this one will last longer.

I just bought a 2015 F3 with only 1600 miles on it.
It was actually purchased in 2017. So it sat in a dealers show room for two years and then sat in his garage a good share of the time he owned it.
The pervious owner told me that he replaced the battery just before I bought it and showed me the old one setting in the garage.
He only put 1600 miles on the machine over a two year period. I don't know if he put it on a trickle charger while parked.

That being said, I'm concerned about some other things. Should I be changing the fluids as well?
And what else should I consider?

I change them out every three years whether they need it or not.

There is a lot of draw on the battery from many sources. When they die they usually do not give a lot of warning. I don't want to be stranded far away from home or dealers.

2013 STS with the original Yuasa battery.
I have a replacement on the shelf just in case.
Will replace the battery before I travel long distance this fall.

After reading tons of threads on this subject, I'm seeing an average of 5 years.
More importantly, I am reading that's it's best to go back with the same battery!

Get yourself a load tester, takes the waste and guesswork out of it.

I just purchased a 2017 F3. The dealer said I should get a lifetime battery replacement agreement. He said the batteries only last about a year because of all the electronics. I don't really buy that. $160 for the agreement. Any thougts?
