• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Battery Issues continued

Still having low batt volt warning with flashing engine and LHM. Took to dealer and they checked connections and updated software. They test drove it with no problem. They simply did not drive it long enough. I drove it home and it showed up again. I am wondering if the battery needs replacing.

Not knowing how old your battery is ,I would guess you need a new one.
But your dealer should have load tested it to know for sure.:dontknow:
Some times a bad battery will show a full charge fresh of a charger, then will run down. [not hold a charge under load]

:agree: It also needs to be tested to see if it holds a charge, by charging, then testing voltage several hours after the charger is removed, or the next morning. A check of the charging system voltage wouldn't hurt, either. One more thing, the Spyder only charges at about half its rated capacity at 4,000 rpm. If you put around at 3 grand, you may not take a full charge.

The bike only has 50 miles on it. The bike is new (2010). Bought it 3 weeks ago. I may take it into dealer tomorrow for new battery or I can change it out. The battery is under warranty so I would rather the dealer do it.

Dealer needs to do a more thorough job of testing. A bad battery isn't hard to find, but it may take leaving the Spyder overnight.

Only have 50 miles in 3 weeks. I am going to guess the battery has never been charged before the sale and the Spyder has not been ridden enough to give it any charge to get it up to par. Seems like dealers are not fully charging the batteries and if the new owner does not ride it several miles...a few hundred, the battery is weak and will not perform right. Also, depending on the age of the battery (a 2010 unit in an aged inventory) it may have developed a dead cell. As also suggested, a new battery may be the solution, but I would ask the dealer to completely charge the battery then test it for cranking power. A dead cell will cause the battery to maybe crank once or twice, but after that it's dead.

Having had battery issues on brand new "toys" myself, I would insist that the dealer swap out your battery for a new one at nc--which he should have done right off. These issues don't get better with time and can cause other complications. :spyder:

If the connection are good you either have a bad battery or it's not charging, either way the dealer should be falling all over themselves to fix this for you.

It looks like they may have found the problem with my bike. Apparently, a wrong fuse was placed in the fuse box. The wrong amp fuse was placed in a slot that called for a bigger capacity. They are keeping the bike an extra day to test ride it to make sure it (low batt warning) does not show up again. I hope that works. They said the battery was fine. That's why I want them to test it out on the road for an extended ride to make certain the battery is fine under a road condition.:spyder:

The fuse didn't blow?:dontknow:

They did not say. They did seem to be convinced that was the problem. They replaced the fuse so it must have blown the undersized fuse. As long as I have it back by the weekend, I am fine.

How did they have the wrong fuse in there with a new bike? That, alone, is very odd!

Already switched dealers. I bought the bike at one dealer but servicing is done by another dealer closer to home.

In any case, the dealer checked out the bike for the last two days and rode it all over creation and pronounced it "clean" of all mechanical demons. I am satisfied.

I just got some LED turn signals from TricLED and will put them on soon. They were not what I was expecting. They are very flexible and basically like a circuitboard bracelet with LEDs. They look easy to install. I think I can probably do it. I will do it when I have the time.
