• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

You have gotten my drawers twisted a few times, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy disagreeing with you.
I have a really good friend I ride with a fair amount who is a FLAMING LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE and I think maybe a commie except that he is a self made millionaire contractor who despises republicans and we get along fine. Not sure where you fit into this picture. I repeat; If we all agreed on every subject, our country would STAGNATE and DIE!
I've been giving this some thought. I think the short answer is that I don't fit into any label except 'contrarian'. Whenever there's an accepted 'truth' of whatever stripe, my knee-jerk reaction is to question it and hopefully develop my own independent point-of-view (which is almost impossible, I freely admit because my thinking is influenced by my environment, my past experiences, etc).

When I lived in California (for over 20 years) I had trouble with some of the liberal ideas that were making their way into public policy. I really enjoyed being an active member of the Sierra Club, for their programs to introduce the public to the enjoyment of public lands. But, I was pretty much a black sheep for my strong disagreement with their public stance on a number of issues, including draining Lake Powell and demonizing the nuclear power industry. But, California is where I learned the power of and need for public activism when government seems to be tone-deaf on matters of public interest (federal, state and local). In Pacifica, CA, where I was married to the sister of the popular left-wing mayor (my brother-in-law), I actively supported his opponent (a thoughtful conservative) in the next election cycle because the left-wing activists in that town had just about destroyed its economy with their anti-growth, anti-business hippie mentality. Family gatherings were tense and eventually led to the end of that relationship.

I now live in a very RED state (Utah) where the politicians routinely favor private interests over public ones. Witness their fight to 'take back' federal lands so they can exploit them. Obviously, I have a strong reaction to the status quo here and have made myself persona non grata in a number of places because of my very public objections to what is going on.

I think, upon reflection, where I come from is the view that those in power and control will tend to abuse their power and it's my duty as an American to question authority and push back when I think it's necessary.

The more generous label for myself would be 'progressive'. But, I think I'm probably just a knee-jerk reactionary to the status quo.

Pete,
Please correct me if I'm wrong...
(As if you wouldn't!! :D)
You certainly sound like a person with some very Liberal viewpoints regarding social matters...

Yet I keep getting a whiff of fiscal conservatism lurking underneath... :dontknow:

You're right, sort of. I'm probably a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian. I'm probably more right of middle than you would expect. I can't support either major party's platform or agenda in total but there are parts of each I like and dislike.

I really don't understand how fiscal conservatives can support spending money on wars while cutting taxes (thus taking us from a surplus to a trillion dollar deficit in one decade). I don't understand how a fiscal conservative can support deregulation of the financial industry, avoidance of taxes by major industries by means of sophisticated exploitation of loopholes, and cutting taxes on the wealthy while we are supposedly trying to whittle away at the national debt.

Taking the long view, I don't understand how eviscerating the middle class, withdrawing from international trade agreements (which have kept our cost of living very low relatively speaking), pursuing pointless wars in the middle east, deregulating industries, turning our public lands over to private interests all lead to fiscal stability and economic well-being into the next decade or more.

I'm with you on the guns; I like to shoot them. For some reason, though, I've never become interested in sports.

This thread is a perfect example of: Do not put anything on the internet that you do not want shouted from the highest mountain. It can happen. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Happy this one had a good conclusion.

Many years ago a mentor of mine told me to "Never put anything in writing that you don't want to be read in open court with your Grandmother in the jury". Advice remembered and well given. Pete, you are someone who expresses yourself well and someone who I would be honored to know. Opinions agreed upon or not.....

I'll be at the Tombstone event. Maybe then?

The way things are in this country now pretty much force the rule: NO POLITICS!
I agree.
Civility as well as truth, has died.

According to my Dad who passed away 20 years ago, and I have a tendency to agree with him on this matter, " If it doesn't involve a shotgun, fishing pole or rifle, it isn't a sport, its a game"

A sport is an athletic competition between two or more human participants whose purpose is to outscore the opponent within a given set of rules, judged by absolute scoring and not esoteric judging, without intentional injury to either party, and does not include the use of vehicles, weapons, cards or animals.

Not sure why you brought this up. Your definition is correct, but it is only one of eleven definitions given by Merriam-Webster. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sport. Many activities that are defined as sport seldom coincide with the definition you give, especially the one that involves a naked couple! :roflblack:
