Ball hitch mounted bike rack

After I get my laser alignment and ROLO swaybars on my RTS I'm really hoping I can figure out a way to mount a bike rack. I've seen a few custom jobs in the forums here but I'm not ready to start drilling holes or fabricating my own metal just yet.

I'm wondering what people think of attaching something like this to the OEM trailer hitch:

Saris makes a version as well but it's a little heavier (20lbs vs. 15lbs).

I think the tongue weight limit of the OEM rig is 40lbs and since my bike weighs about 20lbs, I think I have 15-20lbs of weight to work with before I start having problems.

Thoughts?

I would think the added weight while riding and where the weight would be might be an issue but thats just me.

Although I've wanted to do the same thing, (my wife and I are avid bikers) I agree.

i don't believe that bracket will be stable enough on the back of an RT and the sway will wind up beating your RT to smithereens (just my .02 worth)

Thanks for the link, I didn't know this existed. I can see this being used for hauling my and my wife's bikes on long trips but I'm looking for something a bit more low maintenance for when I'm riding alone locally.

It's also hella expensive. :/

the hitch mount bike rack you are looking at is only 15 pounds [hitch is rated at 40 pounds]
if your bike/bikes are under 25pounds it should work
the only thing you have to watch for is how much the bikes move around going down the road
should be able to tie the top of the rack back down to the front [axel end] of the hitch on both sides to stop most of the movement

It is a little pricey but Harbor Freight / Tractor Supply might have something similar for a whole less.
