• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Baker Air Wings for RT

So I just installed a set of Baker Air Wings on my 2013 RTL. I have 2 concerns... 1) Not sure I like the looks of them against the lines of the bike... Kinda my own issue.. 2) once installed, it becomes a royal pain to take of the side panel to check the oil. You have to take out the upper bolt of the airwing. Anyone come up with a better way. I might just take these things back off the bike

i too wasn't keen on the looks but once i hit the road with them, i got over that real quick. they may look like a sail but boy howdy they work in both hot and cold weather plus they help keep the rain off of you as well.

when it's warm they can direct the air exactly where you want it to go and how much you want. can't do that with the adjustable ones from can am. when it's cold they do a heck of job blocking the cold wind off of you. my wife rides with me and she at first couldn't tell the difference ... that was till I opened them up on a 50 degree afternoon. it did not take two minuets till she asked me to close them back off because she was getting cool.

it started raining last week on the way to the Lamonster BBQ. the wings kept a lot of the rain off of us even when those big trucks came flying by spraying the road down.

i personally wouldn't own a bike without them. :thumbup:

have you figured out an easy way to check the oil without taking the whole wing off??
 
I just left the black grill off when I put the air wings on. To check the oil, I just reach behind the cover and unscrew the dipstick. Now, if I do need to add oil I have to take off the cover but it is a small amount of effort compared to the benefit in ride comfort.

I just added a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 7/16" socket and a 7/16" combination wrench to the tools I carry.

These AirWings do move a lot of air to exactly where you want it; far more than the BRP adjustable deflectors... :thumbup:

i also was not that happy with the look at first, but they really work great. when my bike went in for the key switch to be replaced i took them off b4 i went
 
Just installed...

the new inner panel that goes with the air wings on my 2014 RT-L. Now I can have a little heat in the winter to go along with cool in the summer. Have unlimited adjustment to get the air just where I want it.

Trying to balance comfort, convenience and style!! I went out for a short ryde and they do work really well...
 
We all knew that you'd like them! :D
I went with the BRP adjustables...
I had no heat issues to worry about, and just wanted to be able to tweak the airflow a bit during the extreme ends of the temperature ranges.
If I had a definite need to move more air around me; I'd have chosen the Baker-Builts! :2thumbs:
I had a set of them on my GoldWing, and they were amazing. nojoke
 
one advantage of using the wings are you will never lose your side panel again. it is impossible for it to blow off when you use the wings
 
Just as a PS, we had the Baker Air Wings on for about the first half of our 16000 mile ride this summer. They did great but we were still hot, especially in the Mojave. While at the Owners Event in Durango I picked up a set of BRPs adjustable wings as well. My wife and I both felt that the BRP ones, while not adequate by themselves, did get air moving in areas that the Baker ones did not, so I recommend that both be used.
 
I agree with using both. Bakers put air on lower legs and crotch area and BRP's put it more on your torso.

While I have heard they are affective they are just too ugly to put on my RT. I think if some redesign was done with the system and it could be made to blend better I might consider them.
 
Dress them up a bit

If you want to add a little chrome trim that helps improve the look. Just use 1/4" 3M adhesive backed trim.

The addition of extra heat in the winter, the cooling effect in the summer and the safeguard of never having the side panels fall off are all good reasons to keep them on the Spyder.

I carry 7/16 box end in the glovebox for oil checking. Not so bad once you develop a rhythm to the procedure. I also added the inner wings and like so many others wouldn't care to do without them again.
