• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Bags

Desert Spyder

Are there any GOOD gear or saddlebags out there of the soft variety for the Spyder. I can't see myself spending a G for a Givi (plus $100 for the inserts) to house my helmets.

I use the Nelson Riggs variety of bags. Really well built and standup to alot. Plus you can't beat the cost in the low $300 for two saddle bags and a tail pack !!

I have seen a few people with the cortech ones and other with the nelson riggs. I wanted to get the nelson riggs bags until I saw the Givi!

The Nelson Riggs CL150 tail bag can hold a full face helmet no problem and the CL150 also expands a bit to allow you to cram other stuff in as well.

The bags I purchased were Nelson Rigg Silver Streak SSC-150 but got these because of the silverbike.
You may want to look at Nelson Rigg CL 1000 or Nelson Rigg 950 . Just put the name and # in their search box, and it will show you pics. If you purchase the Nelson Rigg bags, be sure to call their main office, and tell them you have the spyder, and have them send you extension straps. (They sent to me free)

If all you want to do is secure the helmets when you are off the bike, you may want to consider the Pacsafe Lid-Safe. Secure helmet bag, lock, and cable that you can lock to the bike readily. Crams into a small pouch that can be tossed into the trunk when not in use. Nancy has one. The Givi hard bags won't hold most full face helmets.

I actually have the Nelson Riggs CL950 saddle bags and the CL150 Expandable tail pack in addition to the CL400 mini tank bag (yes I like Nelson Riggs). One thing you need to keep in mind is that with the CL950 saddle bags, as I am sure is the same with the Cortech saddle bags, must be mounted backwards if you want to keep the functionality of the passenger footpegs. With regards to the Nelson Riggs extension strap I found that I did not need one if I ran the saddle bag velcro straps underneath the seat as opposed to over top of the seat. This also makes it just a tad more secure then having the straps run over top of the seat. This method also required me to slightly adjust the seat post (the metal post the secures the seat in the down position).

I have the Givi side bags and top case which I think were worth the money. But I also have a large Riggs bag and top roll, plus a big bag made up by an upholsterer who is a riding buddy. The soft bags were left over from my motorcycling days. Nowadays, I keep my camping gear in the soft bags ( hootchie or bivi, sleeping bag, air mattress, shaving kit, bug spray etc.) That way, I need only snap, lash and bungee the stuff onto the passenger seat, and go. With all that weight up high, the Spyder stability is great. Ive dumped a few overloaded bikes ( and yes, I should know better.)

I went through this in another post; I tried mounting the cortech saddlebags backwards and had even less room for the passenger's legs. This is due to the position/location of the grab bars and the taillights. I have them installed the normal way and have kuryakyn's widow pegs and my passenger is comfortable.

One other thing to keep in mind with the soft saddlebags with rubber backing- I found that after a few days the rubber backing held dirt/grit which would eventually scratch the plastic, if left on too long.

I just tried to put my scorpion exo 700 in my Nellson Rigg CL-950 and there is no way it would fit. If your just looking to secure your helmet i would put one in the trunk and if you have another use some kind of Cable lock and run in through the visor and the grab bars.
