Bad news about Shorai battery sent back for testing

Well I just got word back that the Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 battery that was sent back for testing as it would not turn over my spyder properly has passed thier tests. They are going to send me a new one and I will try again with hopes that, test or no test, the new one performs as claimed.

If your not up to speed on the story, I bought this battery and the Shorai charger for just a tad under $400. After installing it had dramatically less power than my stock battery which is about 20 months old and was performing fine. My bike started fine with the orgional but when I first bought the bike it would get low after a few weeks which turned out to be a radio drain problem. Thinking that this may have shortened the life expectancy of the stock battery I decided to do a premptive strike and try out this new technolgy.

Ok, $400 bucks later I have a really awful charger that won't hold the power cord on at all and a very expensive, light, paper wieght if the new one does not prove to out perform the orgional. That being said I am keep a positive attitud that in real live the replacement will prove the orgional had problems. Unfortuneately they are out of stock so I have to wieght for the new one.

Long story short, hold off till I get the new one installed and report back.

Regards,

Randy

 Oh crud...
Randy,
I'm really hoping that you were told that it passed their testing, just to cover their butts. After all; if it had, they could have just sent it back to you...:yikes:
So please let us know how Shorai; version 2.0 works!
Good Luck!

Not sure I understand your reply Bob ,lol... the battery passed the bench test they did, but it failed the real life test in the bike. They are going to send me a new one which is nice and hopefully it is better than the first one. Since I bought the highest capacity model they have there is no other options should this battery prove not to be up to the task.

Take care,

Randy

If you are looking for a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery for the Spyder check out EarthX. They have the cell balancing logic built into the battery so you can charge it with any modern charger like a battery tender.

I would opt for their 36 eAh version. It will fit and provide a lot more power.

I'm just offering up the possibility that they can say pretty much anything that they want about it; it's in their possession, so nobody can contradict them.
But as long as they're sending you out a new one; that shows a true willingness to stand behind their product!

Bummer..!!

When speaking with a battery shop here they said this battery was working well for sport bikes and atv's but does not perform well with big twins. They did say there are some better ones but at a much higher price. I don't think weight is much of an issue on the spyder.. Just me... :dontknow:
