• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Bad Key

I have a 2014 RS SM5 with less than 500 miles. After being out for a ride this evening I came home backed up to the garage door and shut down with the kill switch, shut the ignition off, left the key in the bike. Walked around the garage got out of riding gear an helmet and opened the garage door. took the groceries out of the frunk and placed inside house. Came back to bike got on, turned key and put kill switch in run, looked at the electronic display and "bad key" is scrolling across. Took key out walked away, came back same message. Now I'm concerned, so I came inside looked up Scotty's number and rang him up, introduced myself and explained my situation. Scott said "oh that's not good" You have a problem with either the safety switch on the clutch, the gear position sensor switch or the electronic anti theft module. Checked the microswitch for the clutch, it's being triggered when the clutch is pulled in. Still have same code of bad key on readout. I changed to my other key and same message. Guess I won't be riding the spyder to work in the morning. Anyone out there have anything to add that I might try different from Scotts advise??? If not guess I'll be contacting the dealer in the AM to come pick it up. Will check battery terminals for tightness, but that's all the tricks I know. Any help would be appreciated.:banghead::banghead::banghead::yikes:

If Scotty's info doesn't work .....I hope the dealer has better luck......It should still be under warranty...............PS put some Star Washers under the bolt heads on the Battery terminals .......They will never get loose accidentally ............Mike :thumbup:

Yep that's about what I thought also. If Scotty can't fix it over the phone then it just ain't fixable. Yes I remember your good suggestion to put star washers on battery connections. I did go back since the post and check the battery terminals all snug and tight. Yes it's under warranty but doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeling when it happens. Will call the dealer in the AM. :banghead::yikes:

Thanks Mike for your thoughts and hope you did something fun with your better half on your birthday today.
:yes::clap:

Remember..!!

the 2014's had a run of faulty ignition switches. Check with dealer and vin# you may have one of those. Bad key's generally have miscommunication problems. If both keys fail I would suspect the ignition switch...:thumbup:
