• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Back Tire Wearing in Center Low Milage

Just noticed my back tire, after less than 9000 miles on my 2012 RT, it's really wearing in the center. Looks like it might need replacing soon.
Anyone have any suggestions like deflating the pressure or laser alignment? I run the pressure at 28.
Also if it needs replacing, what are you guys replacing it with?

HI, replacing the rear at 9,000 isn't all that unusual with the OEM Kenda tire. There have been many, many threads about tires so you might want to do a search and read through all of the material. I've used the Kumho Ecsta as a replacement and it was pretty good much cheaper than the Kenda and a little longer wear.
 
That is how they wear. It is usually more of a function of speeds traveled (i.e. freeway riding) but pressures also affect it. Too high and the middle wears, too low and it seems to do the same. 26-28 seems best for most. Typical mileage on the original Kenda rear has been 7,500 to 15,000 miles, but some have gotten less and a few have gotten more. The new tire as fitted on the 2013's and the one sold at dealers now seems to get much, much less. The old one may not be available any longer unless the dealer has old stock. That kind of mileage is as good or as much as three times better than most touring motorcycle tires, BTW, and the tire costs less than the bike tires generally do.

I actually got 13,000 on my rear on the 2013 I was ready to change it out when - well you know when.. That was more than I got on my first Kenda on the 2010

That's the best I have heard on he 2013 version. Thanks for reporting it. I got 14K on my first 2011 tire. Looks like the second will do about the same or better.

Tires
Just so you guys what these tires should cost out the doorincluding install and balance. Falken ZE 912 is $126.70, Kumho Ecsta AST is$142.90, Toyo Proxes 4 is 175.30, All are good tires and in stock at my son'sstore. The Kumho and Toyo are the best in wet conditions. Now if you are havingtrouble hooking up on the drag strip and still want to drive it there try theToyo Proxes RA1 at 231.46 installed. Not good in the rain though.

Michelin HydroEdge 215/60R15 on mine. The slightly larger tirediameter has not caused any Nanny issues and now has my speedometer alwayswithin 1 mph of the GPS speed & often they read the same speed. TheHydroEdge is discontinued & is replaced with the Michelin Defender,
Front are 175/65R14 & are slightly wider than the OEM.

Ordered the Toyo tonight. Got it from onlinetire for $112 shipped.

I have the Michelin HydroEdge 215/60R15 and have put almost 7000 miles on it and it shows practically no wear. I know it's not available anymore. I should have bought 2 :thumbup: I got 10,000 on my OEM tire.

with no end of information. We have the original tire with 14,500 miles on it and still good for much more. Seems there were good lots and bad ones. Maybe where they got the raw materials from. This makes it pot luck when staying with the originals.. Can't help with what to go with but there are lists and opinions all around. If and when I have to change my tire I will change them all to the same brand and pattern....:thumbup:

I run OEM tires at 28 psi. I usually get between 13K to 15K on the rear. They wear out in the center on all that I have replaced. I have replaced either 5 or 6 rear tires now.
 
Just something to consider concerning rear tire wear.

Unneeded over inflation of the rear shock transfers a lot of weight to the front tires, which will contribute to ballooning of the rear tire, causing accelerated center wear.

Larger riders with custom saddles who set back further in the saddle, run their rear shock pressure in box 2 from the bottom, and around 28 psi, should experience better than average rear tire wear. jm2c
