Boots are good. 39% of motorcycle injuries are to toes, feet and ankles. Armored boots eliminate ninty-three percent of those injuries according to a US Marine Corps study. Old fashioned work boots are good for a 71% reduction. Helmets reduce fatalities by 41%. White helmets reduce the remaining 59% by an additional 24%. I don't have any statistics for armored jackets and pants. I think the US Marine Corps studies have this data, but I don't have it with me. The question is how far can you slide on asphalt before the garment wears through...Quite a story. You would think ,since I have had my own wreck, I would be a total ATGATT but alas I am not. But I do wear a 3/4 helmet and leather vest and shoes or boots at the least. I very rarely wear leather pants and jacket only below 70deg. I might have to rethink it.

Even though I have a Can Am mesh jacket it obviously is not for crash protection so I just ordered 2 First Gear mesh jackets for my wife an I that are more protective. I did read a little on the rating system ( CE) and got good information. . We have leather gear for cold weather but it gets way to hot in the summer here in SC to wear it. I got a good price on ebay for them but wow the pants are not cheap anywhere. Gonna have to keep an eye out. The jackets will match my Mag silver RT and each other well and now she has another Christmas present:thumbup:. Thanks for this thread I was not aware of the protective quality of it.

When I went down the area right above the eyes, the part that ciovers the forehead was worn away so much that after I got up and took off my helmet, I pushed my finger all the way through. Without the helmet I would be dead.Remember this little beauty that showed where the impacts were on a helmet? View attachment 80471
