• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Are we the only ones with no motorcycle experience??

My '09 GS was my first bike/trike. My wife bought it for my 50th birthday and it had to sit in the garage for a month before I was able to take it off the driveway for a real ride. Now a little under 3 years later and 26,000 miles later I still love riding any chance I get.

Misses and I bought our RT-S last October and just crossed 2K miles today. Neither of us had any past motorcycle experience before we bought. Is there anyone else out there that this is their first foray into this culture? We don't have a collection of black leather (at least for riding) and feel a little like outsiders so far.

I have leather jackets but seldom ware them. I like the nylon jackets (they do have elbow armor tho) and vented nylon. You can find some neat jackets at the local Spyder dealer as well.

I had never ridden a motorbike and bought the 2008 Spyder off of a picture. When I got it I took it from one end of Route 66 to the other.

Not having any motorbike experience was a plus in that I never had the feeling that the hand brake was missing. On the other hand I expected service similar to other over the road vehicles and that hasn't happened.

It is the most fun thing I have ridden on land.

Another Newbie

I never rode a motorcycle in my life until we had the opportunity to get a spyder from a very sick friend. Had to take the motorcycle class which I almost failed. Have put 2,500 miles on it this winter and my car will probably sit in the garage until the heat gets too much to ride the Spyder. WELCOME!!! You are not alone. :welcome:

We're in our fifties and had no experience on street bikes. I've put 24,000 miles on my Spyder in 20 months and have never been happier. I don't wear leathers and boots like the Harley guys. Usually head out in shorts and sandals. We are who we are right?

Love the Spyder. It was a real life changer. My advice would be just do what feels natural and don't worry about what people think.

We R new to three wheel! But Hubby has been riding for 40 yrs on two wheels :) But once I got on the front of the Spyder!! I went for my safely course! Got my Lic!! And put the bike away for the winter :(. What to wear while riding??? I also wear what I want to!! My favorite shirt says
Okinawa Harley!!! Some people have said you can't wear that??? I said I paid for it!! And my Son lives there !! And yes as funny as it looks !! I'm Happy!! The Spyder family are a great bunch of people!! But I have found no matter what you ride!! 98% of the riders are happy to just talk to anyone that enjoys motorcycles! So keep posting!! And try to make a rally or just a ride someone posts! Hey I send messages on this site and get lost every time I visit?? Best of luck with your new Spyder!

Same here.

Got my Spider on July 14 2012, When I went to pick it up the teck went throught the check list with me. He ask me if I had tested rode one I said no. I told him I had 80 mile to learn. My wife followed me home she said at first I was a little all over my lane but as I got on to it it was easy!!!:lecturef_smilie:
I did the same exact thing. Didn't test drive or anything. Just jumped on and headed down the road. Best purchase I ever made. Ask my 8 year old. Lol

Been riding 2 wheelers for 46 years, had a crash, broke my left hand in about 5 places.I'm 65 and had been thinking about 3 wheels for a little while because getting old ,slow reflexes, coordination getting worse. So after the crash I knew I couldn't stop riding until my left hand was strong enough to squeeze a clutch,so I bought a 2012 rt SE5,It keeps my knees in the breeze.Ride what you like, like what you ride.

New to riding

Went to a boat show in Louisville KY a couple weeks ago and saw a spyder sat on it and wanted one. Went to a dealer in east tennessee and purchased a 2013 RT Limited the next Saturday and love it. Had issue with steering and limp mode and after a 100 miles or so determined it was driver error. Death gripe on handle bars and on brake and gas at the same time. Hoped to be at spyderfest

So how many of us actually jumped on them, and rode them home wihout even taking a test-ride first? ;)
I did... :opps:
For the first couple of miles; I was SURE that I had just made the biggest mistake of my life!
Then I kind of thought about it, and decided that BRP should certainly be trusted to know how to make a machine that'll track straight down the road...
I loosened my grip a bit and relaxed; and the bond was formed!

I got one of the early Spyders, April/May 08, No test ride, Paid the dealer jump on it and road home 75miles'.
The only problem was at the first traffic light, I groped for the nonexistent front brake and when i did stop put my feet down like i was on still on my VTX.:roflblack:

I did. 'Took it home after I piçked it ip and used it at the dealer to take the 8 hours Trike license course.

I had many years of dirt bike behind me, but no prior street bike experience.

Something about the Spyder told me it would be fine.

...Ben...
