There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Are we the only ones with no motorcycle experience??

Welcome to the family

You have entered the world of spyder riding, young, old, new and experienced riders.

we all enjoy the open road and the open air. So welcome, spyder owners are great people which mean so are you! If on our journeys you pass threw southern mn look Gwen and I up will show you spyder hospitality. Any questions just ask we love our bikes and our spyder family members. Leather is over rated textile jackets are lighter and more comfortable IMO.
welcome and ride ride ride.

a new ride

Misses and I bought our RT-S last October and just crossed 2K miles today. Neither of us had any past motorcycle experience before we bought. Is there anyone else out there that this is their first foray into this culture? We don't have a collection of black leather (at least for riding) and feel a little like outsiders so far.

Got my Spider on July 14 2012, When I went to pick it up the teck went throught the check list with me. He ask me if I had tested rode one I said no. I told him I had 80 mile to learn. My wife followed me home she said at first I was a little all over my lane but as I got on to it it was easy!!!:lecturef_smilie:

Never Owned

Same deal here. never owned a bike of my very own until July 2012(thanks JWW), bought my spyder, trailer it home... for the first week i was reluctant to get it on the highway even though I have 25 mile ride to work everyday.. the first day i did it... i got off the highway because of all the cars zipping past me on both sides(someone told me stay in the middle lane.. never again):yikes:... heading home I just took the local route... by the end of the week, it was such a breeze that I hate actually driving now. Come on Spring !!

Congrats to all the new owners.... keep 3 rolling!!!

first time rider

hey June last year i purchased my first spyder and it was my first ever motorcycle

had 12k miles on a 09 rs

year and half later im almost at 42k miles on it and loving every minuet of it

well loving all but the down time i have incurred here that happens when there is not a dealer around the area

I had no experience what so ever... actually I bought it on a Monday, never rode it (no permit or license), trailered it home an hour, went out and got my permit on Tuesday, and got my trike license on that Thursday... all on the first week of August. Talk about a complete impulse buy, but so was my truck, and my Outlander, lol. My dad also picked up his 2011 demo RT on Tuesday that week... sorta a package deal from the dealer, but he has experience.

I have a reflective FirstGear jacket, HJC helmet, and gloves that I always wear. Black Spyder, and I work night shift...

Not at all...

I purchased my RS-s in October of 2012 and have only 783 miles on it so you are way ahead of me. I had no prior motorcycle experience and had only rode off road three wheelers as a kid. When I took the motorcycle safety course I took it on a scooter because I felt no need to struggle with a clutch when my spyder didn't have one. So while you may still be a newbie take some satisfaction in knowing that there is at least one rider who is a few steps behind you. nojoke

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new :spyder:. I didn't ryde prior to our first Spyder ('09 RS) so don't feel alone. Wear what you want as long as you think "safety" first (shorts and flip flops aren't a good idea). Enjoy the ryde  Think about comming to Spyderfest and meet the rest of the gang! It's going to be a "PARTY" :2thumbs:

I too had no experience riding. I bought my RS phantom Sep. 2011 and taught my self how to ride in a storage parking lot. It took me about a month to get really comfortable, especially on the highway. I love the way it rides. Congrats, and happy riding. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360499705.772508.jpg

Be yourself

Welcome to Spyderlovers, be yourself, wear what makes you comfortable, warm, cool. My summertime clothing is a t-shirt, shorts and sneakers and sunscreen. I am a scooter rider also, so I don't have any leathers, have fun and ride:thumbup:.

Only Ones

Jon,
As others have posted you are not alone in this new adventure. My wife and I waited until we were 60 before we got our motorcycle license. I took the MSF course and the trike course and Ann took the trike course. We looked at motorcycles, Spyders and trikes and decided the Spyder was the way we wanted to go. We bought our RS in 11/10 and the RT in 2/11. We've put approximately 2,500 miles on the RS and 7,000 miles on the RT. We've found the RT easier on us to ride than the RS.
We don't own leather, we use Olympia high visibility 3 in 1 mesh jacket and mesh pants. We are all about visibility when in traffic.
Regards,
Reese and Ann

No experience either

We had no experience either. We both took the MSF course and passed, but my wife is just as happy on the back of the bike. We have a 2011 RS that we got in Aug 2011. We have about 6500 miles and are looking for longer rides this year. I still work and am an adjunct at a local college so I need to be back by Monday night, so just Sat and Sun trips for us. We also joined the PGR, so we have leather jackets and vests as well as textile jackects for summer riding. This is a great forum and a great bunch of folks. Can't wait for Spyderfest.

The issue of "proper riding attire" is a fun one. ;)
While a lot of us firmly believe in "All The Gear All The Time" (ATGATT), the truth simply is that it's whatever you are most comfortable with.
I've got an ancient Hein Gerrike Dakar jacket that I'll never part with; I swear that the heavy leather double panels could stop a bullet!
But it gets worn less and less each year as I've found that a textile mesh jacket (TourMaster) offers much more comfort and sufficient protection for my riding style at about a third of the weight.
(The Dakar feels like the cow is still attached to it at times! :yikes:)

MOO...MOO..MOO..MOO

Not alone

I hadn't ridden a cycle since I was in high school ( a long time ago). Jane and I got our first :spyder2: in March 2012. Traded up to our RTS in June and are loving it. Ryding apparel is a personal choice, but do think safety.
Hope to see you at Spyderfest. Hope you always have great rydes.:welcome:

Wear what YOU want. Black anything on a motorcycle can really be HOT :bbq:even on a cool day. Go for your own unique style. There are a few of us that color coordinate.... for me it is purple.... for Flamingobabe it is pink.

That being said.... your wife will be set for several years for gift ideas. nojokeAny thing Spyder (spider).... jewelry... earrings, braclets, necklaces....... The ladies are having a ball with the jewelry. Hope you are coming to Spyderfest:yes:

Not a lot of experience

We too, had little experience. I rode a Honda 450 in the 70's. My two sons took to motorcycles bigtime. After I met Barbara, we never talked about biking until we saw the Spyder. She drove it around a parking the first day on the way home from the dealer. After about a month of riding on our driveway around markers, she took the DMV test on the Spyder and passed with flying colors. She said, "I just sat there and the Spyder passed the test. We now have over 8,000 on the spyder and this will be our second Spyderfest. Hope to see you guys there

Welcome to the Lyfe. :) Like you, I had no On-Road experiance for ryding, but I grew up riding quads offroad, so for me there was a minimal learning curve with only having to remember there's no front brake like there is on a quad. other than that, since I got the manual, everything was the same.
