• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Are we the only ones with no motorcycle experience??

Questions

Misses and I bought our RT-S last October and just crossed 2K miles today. Neither of us had any past motorcycle experience before we bought. Is there anyone else out there that this is their first foray into this culture? We don't have a collection of black leather (at least for riding) and feel a little like outsiders so far.

:congrats: on the new ryde and :welcome: to the party.

Hang in there. On SL you are going to meet brand new ryders like yourself as well as experienced riders of many motorcycles during 50 years or more of riding. That's what makes the site most interesting.

RE: the gear--that is totally up to you. There is no :spyder2: uniform that I am aware of--and if there were--I would still ride with the gear I like best. As you check the pictures on ryders Avatar's, you will see everything in gear represented.

Enjoy your :ani29: and keep posting.

Your not the only one, there are many first timers who now ride a spyder. Don't worry what anyone else is wearing, wear what makes you safe. Enjoy the ride:thumbup:

New Onesa

Nope, you're not alone. I never drove any type of motorcycle before purchasing my spyder. Needless to say, I didn't have any bad motorcycle habits to break before jumping on the spyder. ITS AWESOME!!! As far as "gear" goes..........a good, comfortable helmet is a must. I have bought a helmet, cold weather riding gear to include a comfortable pair of riding boots. And I have purchased a few other things but nothing major. Enjoy the ride and welcome to the spyder world.

I'm also new to riding. Got my RT in July and now have 4,500 mi. on it. Slowly but surely getting leather clothing and accessories. I'm out there and lovin' it!!!! Enjoy your ride!

:welcome: You'll find everything here...new riders, those who haven't ridden for many years, old timers who have 50+ years of saddle sores, and everything in between. All are welcome. Our common bond is the machine, how we got to this point doesn't really matter. Our diversity makes us more interesting and forms a stronger bond.

almost all of my experience has been on atv's since i was 13, the only m/c experince i've had was the motorcycle safety course for my license.

Hubby (Tobor 9) bought me the RT in March of 2011 and I have over 11,000 miles on it. He bought his RS July of 2011 and has over 17,000 miles on his (he's retired). 1st bikes for either of us. BTW, after learning to ride my RT around the block I drove the bike to the owners event in Maggie Valley in June.

Well, black leather is not required but it is fun! Welcome to riding. It is a fantastic way of life and great for a marriage. Jump right in, you won't meet nicer people anywhere. You'll find new roads, new experiences and new friends! I didn't ride street bikes until I was 45, so don't worry about your lack of experience. That comes with every ride. Just enjoy yourselves!

:welcome: Don't worry about theerience part of ryding! You'll get experience quick enough. You have some of the most beautiful roads in the country to get it on! Relax, enjoy, and "Keep your Knees in the Breeze"! :doorag:

I too have no motorcycle experience. I will (hopefully) be ordering my red 2013 RT-S at the end of this month. I've already got a list of stuff I want to buy which includes some farkles. It's hard to wait.:2excited:

very similar to you .....i rode for the first time in august 2012 when i bought a 2008 gs spyder. lovvvvvved it so much that i instantly knew i was hooked and wanted to upgrade. i bought a 2012 rt in october and cant wait till i can ryde again this summer.

like others have said, dont worry about what youre wearing....as long as youre comfortable and safe.

i cracked up when i read you dont have a collection of black leather (at least for riding).......hmmmm, i'm surprised bob didnt ask what your black leather collectionn is for. :roflblack:

LUCKY BUT DIDN'I REALISE IT

Really, I think the people who have never driven a Motorcycle had the easiest time learning to drive/operate the Spyders.......Because they drive like "cars" and not motorcycles.........if you drive it like a Mtc. you are going in the ditch :yikes::gaah::agree:........Mike

I hope you're not wearing the "at least for riding" black leather! :yikes: That might draw a few looks!

Good all temperature, skid resistant material and layered clothing all good. Enjoy

I'll be heading to the Spings after SpyderFest. I'll be visiting my brother an his family as well as some friends with whom I was stationed with while I was in the military. Maybe we can meet up while I'm there.

Sent from somewhere on the road.

Best bunch of people in the world here on SpyderLovers. Need help , ask. Got a question, ask.
I gave up black leather for neon green Klever (sp). I a believer in ATGATT.

Your the lucky ones...!!

Many ryders here came from bikes (two wheelers), some willingly some reluctantly some still do both. All of them had to unlearn many habits but I'm sure they all adjusted and love the ryde. You will see many grab for the front brake or put their feet down at stops. Do it myself even after 6 months.

Clothing optional, well as far as what to wear. Many have gear from th two wheeling day thats why all the leather.

:congrats::welcome: Enjoy the ryde...:thumbup:

No worries, we're ALL outsiders here, just go with it & Enjoy the Ryde

:joke::doorag: Welcome to the party :doorag::joke::yes:

:ohyea:The Spyder is our first byke also. Truly changed our lives :ohyea:

:welcome: I had no real previous experience when I got my Spyder in 2010 but now after crisscrossing the country several times I consider myself a hardcore Spyder rider. I prefer textile gear to leather!
