Are highway pegs worth the expense?

Right now when we tour, Hubby puts his feet on the plastic shield right in front of the floor board on 2014 RTS. We have a road trip coming up and are thinking about installing after market highway pegs. Any thoughts?

Of course they're worth the expense!

Anything you buy for your ride will be worth it over time. As far as the hi-way pegs, if he likes the position of his feet, then buy them. Where he puts them now is not designed for the added weight and they will fail.

RIVCO, a sight sponsor, has a nice pair that keeps your feet in a little closer to the bike. Well worth the money!

I spent a couple hundred dollars on highway pegs for my GoldWing... hardly ever used them... to me highway pegs are poor investment.. I see some real inept folks with their feet on highway pegs riding in traffic in town... good way to get your butt hurt..

:agree: Good idea to install pegs if they are a comfort necessity for a ride. The plastic parts will eventually fail and could end up being more expensive than buying the highway pegs.

I have chrome accented highway pegs and love them. They are kind of like a throttle lock: you really don't use them that much, but on long rides they are essential to comfort and ride enjoyment.:doorag:

Depends..!

I don't have them and if I did wouldn't use them enough to make it a worthwhile envestment. I can stretch out if needed but also don't ryde freeways that much either. It is a comfort thing and I you find your stretching out a lot then they are worth every penny...

Those highway pegs will be MORE than worth the money when the plastic air deflectors fail...
They're not designed to support any weight.

keep in mind

I have Lamonster NBV Highway pegs on my 2011 Rt. Very helpful on longer rides. PLEASE keep in mind though, when you're feet are out there you have NO BRAKES. I only use them to stretch out when traffic is clear and I can see WAY ahead. For me one of the few things I don't like about the Spyder is not having a hand brake.

Love my Lamonster NBV Highway pegs!
Worth every cent!

:agree::agree:

I have Lamonts NBV pegs and use them for 99% of my riding, I also have the oversized brake pedal and can use my heel for braking when resting on the Highway Pegs.

You have brakes, your foot is just a few inches further away from the brake pedal. I can get on the brakes just as quickly if needed.

Depends I guess. For a long, long ride, sure I think it is a definite requirement. For an oldster, yeah. For my STS SE5, there needs to be a little more room for my legs and I am only 5'10". So, for me, I need to stretch a bit. Plus, the plastic panels are only held on by Cleco (Kleco?) fittings and are not that sturdy or stable. So, having given my opinion,I also give a big ole yes. They are not that expensive anyway. Do it!

I like highway pegs to stretch out my old knees/hips on longer rides. I return to the floorboards when slowing down, etc. However, the ones (that I could find online) that fit a 2014 Spyder RT don't offer much extension beyond the most-forward foot position on the floorboards. I tried putting my feet gently on the lower air deflectors (or whatever you call them) and it actually caused me more discomfort because my knees weren't extended but a couple inches and my hips hurt because my feet were higher. Oh, I wish someone could point me to some pegs that extend over the deflectors and out more toward the front wheels so I could stretch out more.

Lamonts NBV pegs with the extenders will fill that need for you, be sure to get the extenders with them.
