Are highway pegs worth the expense?

Right now when we tour, Hubby puts his feet on the plastic shield right in front of the floor board on 2014 RTS. We have a road trip coming up and are thinking about installing after market highway pegs. Any thoughts?

I got mine from Lamont and they were well worth the money. IMHO.

DEFINETLY YES, Do your homework first. I used to take short hiway rides and sling my legs up on the front fenders, just to stretch out. Got adjustable pegs and never looked backed. Well worth the time and money........ Did 5500 km with them a couple years ago, Oregon Coastline. AWESOME.

This looks great!

I wouldn't ride without pegs. I had Pitbull install a set when I bought the bike . I couldn't make the ride home to Ohio without them. I quickly learned that the ones on my 2014 RT were not as comfortable as on my 2012 RT. The setup on the14 caused my legs to be spread too far apart, so I modified mine by inverting them. Mine now point inward, keeping my legs closer to the bike. The large black spacer is what I added.

When I added the same pegs i also have my legs spread too far apart, causing pain. Will try this mod for sure.

Where did you buy the spacers, or did you make them yourself? This looks like the perfect setup for me.

Sorry for the delay, I just saw your question. This should answer everything.
Here is a better link to the standoffs that I used to complete this project. Never mind the picture on the Grainger website, it makes them look really long. I think they use the same picture for all the various sizes. As far as boring them out goes, I just used a drill press with a good vise and a rag to hold them in place. The anodized finish is very durable, so no worries there. Just a good 1/2" drill bit and you can bore through the aluminum in no time.<br />

I like the look of the chrome Rivco model. They don't splay your legs as much as others do I am told.

I have Lamonsters setup. I don't use them a lot in town and short rides but on long rides I love them. I like to move my lets fore and aft as I travel, it helps with circulation, cramps, back pain and overall comfort. I can get to the brake pedal fine but with anything, comfort comes second to safety so I am cautious to use them only when appropriate. For me the set up needs some more tweeking I plan to put a slight twist on the riser bracket so the pegs line up with my boot better. A good set up should allow you to raise you feet without hunting which is what I find I am doing at present.

For me NO - a flat waste of money. I've tried several different styles, and none worked for my long legs. If you're 5'8" - they'll probably work for you. I have Seal Floorboards, and have far more foot positions, all of which offer quick and easy access to the brake.

With Seals, you have a built-in hwy peg. because they are so long. I ride with my heels at the tip of the bend then just slide back and brake with my heel. Smooth.

Ride in comfort,

If I feel the need to stretch my legs; I just stand up on the floorboards, and give each one of them a good shake... ;)

...It keeps the traffic around me wondering when I'm going to finally hit something solid!

NOT ADVISEABLE

Others have done this and discovered the plastic breaks all to easily.......I made a steel insert for mine ...you can't see it but it's there ......Mike

are these hiway pegs designed for the RT only, I have a 2009 GS and would love to have this option of streching my legs on long rides.

I have full size Seal Floorboards for all years of the GS and RS, SE5 or SM5. Check my website. They are in stock. You will see a beautiful White RS SE5 in the Gallery section of my website.

Ride in comfort,

It depends on whether you feel comfortable when riding without being able to stretch out some. If he is already using the plastic shield then he probable needs some pegs. I found out quickly that I needed some pegs and got the ones that attach to the floorboards. Very easy install. Whether it's worth the money or not. Depends. These are our toys and might as well have fun and be comfortable while doing it.

Uhhh... My guess is that they are actually wondering if you just wet your pants.

If you feel the need to do that a lot while riding down the interstate, I'd LOVE to see a video of that. :roflblack:
