• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

APB for Scotty!

he has helped me out quite a bit and probably doesn't even know it. I hope he comes back...maybe just needs a little time away

Thanks everyone. I know these posts are more than just patronizing, they are heart felt.

Lamont says Scotty is lurking a bit and I'm glad about that. Just knowing he may be peeking in from time to time is a good sign.

Scotty is a trooper and I'm sure he's weathered worse than this before.

Who knows! He might come back better than ever after a litlle rest.

I don't post much because, not owning a Spyder, I really don't have much to offer. But I lurk a lot and I enjoy Scotty's posts a lot. I expect there are folks who bought Spyders because of Scotty, there are folks still riding Spyders because of Scotty and I know that I still plan to buy one at least in part because of Scotty's knowledgable posts. I certainly hope he decides to come back to the forum.

Scotty :

We will all be a little less in humor and knowledge if you decide to permanently leave.

I personally will miss your wit, your knowledge and your passion.

Temporarily is ok and understood of late..just circle the field for a while and then come back in .

It's mainly due to this site that I bought my Spyder. Lamont has a wonderful tool here in this site, for a product that is just now starting to take off, and it's members like Scotty who continually share their knowledge that makes this site the premiere destination for Spyder info. I know I've learned more from you all then I could ever hope to on my own.

I truly hope that Scott is still with us, even if he is just taking a break from posting. (Doesn't he have over 4k posts?!?) He deserves a break... But not too long of one, as I for one, am looking forward to more of his insight within the world of the Spyder!

Maybe we all need to consider WHY Scotty isn't here right now.

His choice to go away and leave us without his thoughts and expertise came about because of the behaviors of some on this forum that he was uncomfortable with, in my opinion.

Choosing not to participate in a forum that he is respected in is one way of pointing out that we may need to rein in our rampant speculation in consideration of the possible longer term consequences that could come from such.

I came very close to making that choice myself, before things began to come back in line.

Afterthought: The forum seems to be drifting around a bit, without some of the more thoughtful posters of late. Maybe there are others out there quietly making the same choice.

Other than moderating a forum 24/7, people are going to post what they think and feel. I, for one, liked reading the GOOD and the BAD comments about the Spyder. I rarely post some of the issues I have had, unless they are safety related. I think the problem Scotty saw was the people that would not let issues die. Once the post is made and all are aware of it, then go on to other things. Steering issues, updates, fires have taken over the forum. Where are all of the " great ride today, lots of smiles, nice seeing people stop me and ask about the Spyder, road trips, etc that forums are known for.
Its up to the people on here to turn this forum around. I'm not saying the issues that people have had arent important, but there are way more posts about problems than the problems themselves.
Ok, enough from me this morning. Just finished my morning run and was winding dowm...LOL

PS. We could start a "Where is Waldo" type of thread for anyone spotting Scotty out and about

Scotty is posting on the other forum now.

After reading this, I wanted to take a look. I know that Scotty left the other forum when the flame wars got out of hand and he didn't like rude behavior. So I did a search. He did have some posts over there in Sept. & Oct. but only regarding the new RT and only in those threads. Previous to that, his last post there was May of 2008.

Also, I would like to note, I don't believe he is saying that he doesn't want to hear both the good and the bad or even limit people's opinions. I think he just got tired of how much negativity and beating of a dead horse and people being an alarmist beyond their actual issues. I agree, there are issues. I have been without my spyder since Gatlinburg. But I too have basically stayed away from this site as it was no longer any fun to come to. You get tired of reading the same thing over and over again, just rehashed and rebashed a new way for a new day. We know there are issues, state your facts, voice an opinion, but be educated, make sense and be polite.

Well if all the fun and upbeat folks leave the site what good will that do? :dontknow:

Take control and bring back positive atmosphere we had here, I can't do it by myself.nojoke

Yep, Its up to ALL of us on the site to change the way things are going. I have learned a lot from this site, got some good deals on used parts and made some good friends. That is what these sites are all about. JMHURO

And spent a lot of money on mods that I never knew existed..LOL

You are very right Lamont. This site has been a hugh part of my spyder ownership and part of the whole experience.

I will do my best to continue to be part of this "family" and keep a positive and upbeat attitude and outlook. Thanks for reminding me of what we are all about.

of 2008.

To say you shouldn't care or voice your concerns over the steering issue just cause you haven't had yet to me is a unfair statement. I'm afraid I might of been one of those people that caused Scotty to go if that is the case. I agree that overall bashing the spyder is not needed, if you don't like it get rid of it. I did not know voicing your concerns over an issue, whether or not you have exprienced or not, is not wanted. I always thought of this as somewhat of a support group. I believe everyone has done this so I am a bit confused as what is warrented and what is not. I have always just assumed if you didn't like the topic just move on to the next one and don't read it. I don't read every topic, just the ones that I think will interest me. I don't know...just my 2 cents

For what it's worth, here are some thoughts:

1. If someone notices an issue with their Spyder, state it with any related concerns. This gives the rest of us a "Heads Up".
2. If you have a question or ask for opinions, expect some back. I have noticed that too many times someone posts an opinion and is told by someone else, or the poster himself/herself "you're wrong!" An opinion is just that. If you have a different opinion, just state it, don't tell someone else he/she is wrong. Stating so doesn't make you right.
3. If you want to bash BRP or Spyders in general at least OWN a Spyder! If you haven't walked in our shoes you don't know our blisters.
4. Stating that you will get a lawyer, etc., to go after BRP, your dealer, etc., should be kept private.
5. After posting an issue keep us current on the outcome. That is constructive for anyone else who may need your experience in dealing with the issue. Constant bashing is not useful.
6. What seems like the 2 major issues, fires and steering, are getting a lot of back and forth hashing and bashing directed towards BRP and/or dealers. Some of the accusations against BRP seem to be riding on the borderline of lawsuits by BRP for false accusations. We have no clue how BRP is handling this, so it's best we just keep our anger to ourselves. Bad dealers are a dime a dozen. If you have a bad dealer, just post and ask anyone for their thoughts on a good dealer in your area.
7. My thoughts in summary: let's try and keep the Forum as a place to meet people, make friends, exchange ideas about our Spyders, help each other to better know our Spyders, and let's put some miles on them.
