• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone using eco mode? Beneficial?

Does anyone use the eco mode on their Spyder?

If so is there a benefit you noticed from using it? I tried it and don't notice any MPG change.

I've tried it a few times and did not notice any difference!!!! I think it is bunch of BS just like having to use it to start the engine????????????????

ECO????

I think it's a waste of computer memory. What good is the wimpy throttle response??

It was worth a couple of tenths of a mile per gallon... I felt that by taking my eyes off of the road, to look for a Green Arrow: it was actually dangerous. nojoke

As I see it...

It is to please the epa people especially here in CA. From the start the testers said it did not do enough to make it wotrthwhile but they may improve on it someday...

It's a waste of technology. If you don't know how to ride, and need the green arrow to tell you when to shift then it's somewhat useful. But you're better off without it.This topic has been discussed on copious threads :bdh:

Many don't like it. But some do if you look at past posts on this subject.
I think there is more than 1 answer.
When I first tried it after getting our '14 RTS Spyder a couple of years ago I didn't like it and agree that looking at the green arrow was distracting but once used to the machine you really don't need to look at the freakin arrow to know when to shift.
I still don't like the way the Spyder feels when using ECO in city situations or when you are on and off the throttle a lot.
In my opinion, it is most useful in long distance rides when running at a constant speed where you really don't care about throttle response. I have used it in those situations when gas availability is really a stretch in some of the western states where we have traveled. I believe we got 2-3 miles per gallon more and didn't really notice the poorer throttle response because throttle response didn't matter but getting to the next gas station did.
So, I believe it can be useful but for many situations it really doesn't matter and then having the better throttle response is more enjoyable although having occasionally forgetting to switch back to normal mode sometimes didn't twig for a while and I didn't really notice right away.

eco mode

I have a 2014 RTS-SE6 and I use ECO MODE almost exclusively. I like the more "sedate" manner of the beast. I am no longer interested in going nowhere in a cloud of blue smoke like I used to do when I was a youngster in my 60's.

Hi I don't use Eco mode I shift progressively don't wind it up between every gear run the speed limit 44 mph [emoji41]

Be careful in ECO mode

ECO mode cuts your acceleration and response by 20 to 30%. If you don't believe it simply drive on a level road and engage the ECO mode while holding the throttle steady. If your doing 65 mph watch your speed drop. Mine drops to 56 or so. I can do everything it does with my right hand except turn on the green shift light.
Here is my main issue with it. If you are in a bind and need 100% acceleration such as getting away from a car or passing, be careful, as it limits the engine output.

Personal Opinion

For someone that has never ridden, it is good as an initial "training" device to show the rider when (RPMs) to shift.

:welcome: You have heard the "usual" replies when ECO MODE questions pop up.

I also do not use regularly or see any major "benefits" from its use.

My comments follow others.

Don't like the distraction of looking for the green arrow.

Miniscule mileage improvements.

Lower power output.

My suggestions, shift by sound or find your "sweet spot." I like 3000 - 3500 for all upshifts--its in the power range and usually smooth and no clunk with the shift. I let it downshift on its own 99% of the time.

And...I always rant when talking about ECO. I would rather have the electronic frunk release than the ECO function. There--I said it again. :roflblack:
