Has anyone tried putting Brembo brakes on a 2012rt? I’m considering this as my 14 RT has so much better breaking power. 1. Is it possible? 2 Any experience out there?

Guys .....all this I know and appreciate the input but.....has anyone put the 2014 and up brembo brakes on a 2012? Are the hubs and caliper hangers /bolts similar?

You might also need to include the 2013 & up Brembo compatible ABS Unit & the computer that controls it if you want to safely operate the Brembo Brakes..... :dontknow: . But for what it's worth, the newer fenders for the 15" wheels fit on the earlier Spyders that only had 14" wheels & fenders to suit, so at least some of the bits bolted to that area are interchangeable!

There again, if you are really serious about doing this swap, why not swap the whole spindle & hub assy too?? . Just pop your 2012 ball joints & remove the lot; insert the 2013 & up Brembo compatible spindles, hubs, & ball joints; fit the Brembo discs & calipers etc; address the ABS & it's computer controllers as necessary; and then bleed the new Brembo Brakes! :ohyea:

Hey Peter! I do have the 15"wheels and tires ...haven't gone so far as to swap out everything else but that's what I'm referring to at this point but ...I'd rather not....if the brembo calipers and hook up to the old system obviously...

Are RACING that Spyder professionally ???? .... if not ( as Peter said ) I think you are going to spend a lot of money for slightly better Braking .... Have you considered Ron's Brake DISC's ???? they are different from OEM , and from other reports they grab better .... good luck ... Mike

It will not be as good as Brembo's but like Mike said changing out rotors and pads to ECB, will make a difference!!!

I bet you can. HOWEVER, you're likely to be replacing quite a few parts in the process. The cheapest and easiest way to do it is to find a wrecked Spyder and then start grabbing and replacing parts. I would bet that you'd have to replace almost the entire front end from the A arms outward, including the fenders and discs.

Now having written that you could research other brands of motorcycles that use a similar braking system. The caliper is mounted in a standard radial arrangement, so you might find something else, like a Brembo or a Nissin from a motorcycle that MIGHT bolt right up using the same discs and wheels.

This has been done in years past with other types and brands of motorcycles that came with inadequate brakes. Read: older Suzuki V-Stroms.

Spoke with BajaRon and his advice was pads and rotors only and hope for the best ....any further caliper etc would be unwise... thanks all!!
