Anyone have an Aluma MCT or MCTXL trailer?

I keep looking at trailers, and have a tough time swallowing $3K+ (Bushtec or CanAm) for a trailer that will see the road 3 or 4 times a year.

I ran across the Aluma MCTXL, for half that price - NEW  - and it looks good in the pics and sales videos, but I can't find a local dealer, and have never seen on on the road.

Anyone have some input for me??

BTW, the best price I can get locally for the BRP 622 is $3,600 - cover, tongue jack, and spare are extra.

Standard Equipment
600# Rubber torsion axle - Easy lube hubs
12" Aluminum tires & wheels
Aluminum fenders
Overall length = 97"
Overall width = 45"
1-7/8" Coupler
Lockable lid with over-lapping lip for waterproof protection
Luggage rack on lid
Cooler tray with tie loops on tongue
LED Lighting package, 5 round harness
Rubber-mounted rear lights
Gas-cylinder assisted lid
Tongue stand
17.5 cubic feet volume
Available in aluminum treadplate and cargo colors

Given the similar pricing, I like the all aluminum design, plus Aluma has made other types of trailers for years.

While there's no sales tax here, given there's no local dealer, there's a minimum $250 shipping charge to add - true for any of the non-BRP trailers though.

Anyone actually seen one of these??

Dragonrider,
I have a trailer like you are asking about. It pulls behind the RT just fine. You do not know its there. If you have any qustins that I can help with just let me know.

Thanks.

Anything you can share regarding the quality, leak resistance, and wiring (I have the BRP hitch & connector), would be very helpful.

Dragonrider,

I think the quality is very good. It is a all welded aluminum trailer. The front diamond plating is nice. The little cooler tray in front is also nice. It has all LED lighting which is good.

It has been water tight for us. Went to Branson Mo. this fall and ran thru 2 hours of heavy rainfall. Everything stayed dry.

Mine has the buddies bearing on it. Not sure if that is a standard feature or not. But it is a good thing to have.

Mine is the smaller of the two models. The wife and I can put enough clothing and her extra stuff for a weeks vacation with no problems.

The wiring is no problem. You stated you already have the BRP pigtail. Pretty simple to wire up. This is a picture another member posted of the BRP wiring.

Hope I have helped.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thread Resurrection - Tongue Stand and Carpet Kit - MCT

I recently purchased a used Aluma MCT and am wondering if anyone knows where I can get a tongue stand and maybe a carpet kit (if one exists) :dontknow: Otherwise, I'd be curious to know if anyone has made their own carpet kit and how difficult it was it to install.

Not sure where you would get the tongue stand other than the manufacture, I did make a carpet for the floor of mine, went to Home Depot and bought a front entrance way rubber backed carpet, trimmed it to fit them tacked it down with silicone adhesive.

Hey guys just got this exact trailer yesterday. About the carpet kit I am using the same felt that the audio guys use for covering speaker sub boxes. You can get this at any fabric stores, its black or grey. I am using a spray adhesive to fix it to the aluminum because this trailer is so light it might be easier if you lay the trailer on its side to work on the panel so your working flat. The only tricky part is going to be the front of the trailer but just cut all your pieces and dry fit them first then spray one side and stick on. Hope this helps.

I sent you a PM on a different topic - hoping you can help.

Is the Chassis on this welded or bolted together? Aluminum or steel? I bought a Harbor Freight trailer and welded it after I bolted it together. Nice and sturdy but don't trust the wheels for an 8,000 mile trip and need a better box.

The only thing that is not aluminum is the axle, everything else is welded aluminum.

Trailer Wiring Update

I wanted to be sure to let everyone know that if you buy an Aluma Trailer (or any other make) with a 5-way flat plug, you may need to convert it to 4-way - here's why: I have a 2011 RT-S SE and followed the advice of others on this forum by purchasing a BRP 2010 tongue harness (part# 710002029), cutting off the deustch connector, and splicing in a 5-way female plug using the spec sheet from Aluma and the one from BRP, posted to SL. After testing it on my trailer, I discovered that the turn signals and the brake lights are on the same circuits - all of the lights came on when I pressed the brake and the LED bar flashed no matter if I had the left or right signal on. Once I did more testing, I found that the only wires I need to use from the tongue harness are Black (ground), Brown (running lights), Red (Rt flasher & Brake), and Orange (Lt flasher & Brake). However, the big LED light bar on the back of the trailer, which is used for running (3 LEDS light up) and brake lights (all LEDS light), doesn't work when I apply the brakes, the turn signal LEDs both light up with the brake. This means that I will need to connect the turn signal leads into the LED bar which will turn it into a brake light and turn signal (at least, that's what I'm hoping will happen).
Side note: I am in no way blaming anyone for this! Had I thought about it, and been smarter, I should have tested each wire before making the first cut/splice.

If anyone has converted their trailer from 5 to 4-way, please let me know. I will be redoing the wiring this week some time and would love to know the difficulty level before getting in over my head.
;)
Thanks!
Anita

Anita and I have been working on her trailer situation for a while now. I must admit that it is a lot harder by Internet. Anyway, at this point it looks like the BRP trailer module has been modified to provide 4-wire output. If you replace an RTS trailer module or buy a new hitch/harness, and you don't use the RT-622 trailer, test your trailer connector first, before purchasing a mating connector. You may have to revise your trailer lighting and rewire your trailer. Previous pinouts and advice given here regarding the trailer wiring and harness may no longer be accurate, so test your wiring and start from scratch. Trailer wiring is a bit of a muddy mess, at this point.

Not to Hijack, but...

Has anyone thought to manufacture or have a manufacturer make a "pigtail" that will convert from the BRP end on the bike to a trailer with a 4 flat plug? I am going to have the dealer install the hitch and harness and then take it to a local trailer shop to see if they can make a pigtail for me. If it proves to be successful, would there be interest from others to purchase such? I know that I would be willing to spend a few $$$ for the ease of use.

It's a bit tricky and not cheap...and it would only work on a Spyder with the latest trailer module, not the 2010 version. Most here have used a BRP trailer pole harness as the basis for an adapter. The parts are available to do what you wish, but the cost might limit your customer base, and as I said, it would not be universal, so it worked on all RTs.
