There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Anyone else seeing this much Metal on their Spyder's oil drain plug?

If the 'final drive pulley' (front sprocket?) went then you wouldn't have reverse either.
Is this an SE or SM?

Good luck !

That is what I figure. It's a sm6 and I lost all gears just grinds!! So I sent the day getting it to the shop 125 moles away hoping to get a loner like I was told when I bought the thing...no loaner and they are 4 weeks out! Going to be a very long month!

greatrides

I rev'd the mine to the max quite often during the 1st 500 miles. Hit 110 mph speedo in 5th gear on my 2015 F3's SE6. Zero metal particles on the oil plug at 3000 miles. After I changed oil/filter I installed both gold drain plugs. All runs fine. In contrast to others who state they only need slightly over 5 quarts of oil, mine needed a full 6 quarts of AMSOil Metric 10W40 & the oil stick shows just at the very bottom of the adequate range. Maybe I got the long end of the oil stick? :)
Mine ran much better after the oil change - the vibrations reduced; the thumb shift trans shifted quicker; I believe it takes time for things to settle down & wear in properly.

Just lost all forward gears...I feel it's the final drive pulley, but we will see!! It could be internal, I guess.

Any updates on what happened?

Doing my first oil change on my new to me F3S.
I noticed a significant amount of metal on the clutch drain plug.
It has 10,100 miles, and I don't know exactly when the last oil change was.
The previous owner did say he took it to the dealer for service, and he's only had it for about 5 or 6k miles and 3 years.

I'm not going to worry at this point, but I will keep an eye on the situation.

If you just took that out of your bike, I would say that you have something going on !!!! Think it's more than just an eye job!!! Good luck!

This would not be good even for a 1st oil change. Both the volume and size of the pieces are concerning. It would have been good to supply an oil sample for analysis. I would recommend running for 500 miles and pull the drain plug again. Hopefully, it will look much better. However, if it shows signs of going the same direction, you should pull the clutch cover and find out what is going away before you end up with a much larger issue.

Thanks Ron. I'll definitely do that.

The main reason I didn't collect a sample is that I'm not certain the type of oil, or how many miles it's been in there.

I didn't notice any similar debris in the oil filter. I did keep it, and I'll take a closer look tomorrow.
The clutch operates smoothly, grips well, and I haven't heard any unusual noises from the motor or tranny.

I'll check it again after 500 miles or so, send in a sample for analysis, and let you know what I find.

I did my first oil change on my current :spyder2: this month before it went into hibernation.

I did find some metal filings on the Magnetic drain plug (clutch cover), but there were not too many...
