• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone else getting this Intermittent Database error message when logging on?

I got this a few days ago when logging on. So I left it for a while.

It was back this morning. Then it cleared. FYI

Took a screenshot.

Cheers. Its not just my set up then. Good to know.
FWIW I have Firefox. Made no difference with the VPN on or off.

I received the same message. The site was back up and running within two hours on that incident.

I have received no additional information from site administrators or from other moderators.

Websites use a "database" to manage all of the information, like these message posts.

I used to be an admin on a site that occasionally displayed that type of message.
The only solution was to contact the person who had access to the database server and ask them to fix it.

Ok. So you're saying the msg:

"The www.spyderlovers.com forum technical staff have been notified of this error...."

is not true and correct, you have to contact them?

Catch 22. If you can't log in, just how do you notify them?

Any Admin or other staff member of Spyderlovers.com logs in, sees the error, and emails the other staff members to let them know.

One or more of them will know how and who to contact.

I've been getting that Database error message occasionally over the past few days too in both Opera & Firefox.

I too got that message during the wee hours last night... So you are clearly not alone; nor does it seem to be just a 'Southern Hemisphere' issue...

And like others, the majority of my browsing history, cookies etc gets deleted when I log out - well, everything that is, except the bloody 'history & browsing data' that goggle automatically etc steals & saves to further develop its algorithms in order to skew what it will let me see! :cus:

Just as a bit of a rant on the side - for my own personal use, I use DuckDuckGo &/or Firefox, both of which DON'T retain history &/or use or steal data to develop 'algorithms' in order to skew what I get to see on the internet; and I do that cos I want to see the all of the info that I ask for when I search etc, and not just what some bloody algorithm decides I might like to see or only what it'll let me see!

But there's a bunch of Mod activity & searches on potential members here et al that I use which rely on goggle to work, and I really have no easy way to avoid it for all that, so while I too have Chrome with the browsing data & cookies etc. set to be deleted each time I leave, it still steals all the info it uses to further develop its algorithm - and you should see the crap that 'my Chrome algorithm' comes up with as a result, and how different/biased it is revealed to be if I do a direct comparison with a 'non-algorithm managed' search!! :yikes:

Algorithm's should be banned, along with the browsers/systems that use them to manipulate what & how you get to see info on the internet!

OK, now that I've said all that, rant over - so let's return you to your normal broadcast... :p

Just got it again, at 8:00 PM CST. And now it is ok.

And no email notifications of the above posts to this thread.

HI Isopedella,

I got the error message a few days ago, but I did not proceed logging on to this site.

I logged in late last night, I did not have any problems. I also use Google for my search engine.

Deanna

Yep. Cheers for that D.

I too did not proceed. But it was back real early this morning. Thats when I took that screenshot. I left it.
Tried later on and it worked as normal, with no error message.

So.. all good the last couple of days. Straight in with no site nasty message.
Anybody had that message in the last few days?

I did report it, but so far have had no response from the management, nor have I recognized any comment from the "management / tech team" in this thread.

I WONDER ECpg.jpg

One of those things I guess.

Three of us Moderators have commented! :p (and yeah, I did rant too! :opps: )

But there's really nothing more I or anyone else on the Mod/Admin Team can add right now - it's been reported; by more than one person; and more than once too...

That means the appropriate person/s know about it; it's being looked into; and it's on the list of things to do - but as always, there's a lot of other stuff that needs doing too; and the Admin/IT bloke here's already working like a one-armed piccolo player with the crabs & burning the keys off his keyboard doing all that... So apart from posting up if you see that data-base error pop up again, it's probably best to leave him doing what he needs to do instead of making him drop everything to reply to every post here. ;)
