• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anybody know how to dismantle an RT mirror?

I can't easily see the dim indicator-on lamps in the cluster display so I want to mount an LED bulb on the mirror housing (facing me) wired to the blinkers. To do this I need to get inside the body of the mirror housing but I don't know how to take them apart. :dontknow:

Any help at all would be most welcome. :D

Thanks, Bob and Chris, it isn't a great quality illustration but it held enough clues for me to see what was needed. I've opened up just one mirror for now to make sure I can fit the LED, do the wiring and fit the mirror housing back together again. Waiting for a pair of amber LED's to arrive in the post. :2thumbs:

After the fact I did the chrome upgrade. It is VERY nerve-wracking, but the top schroud will pop off.

How does the cover come off (part #61 I think) just prided off?

Thanks,

Randy

Yup. I'll try to find my instruction sheet for the chrome accent piece I added (like many others). But I remember it clearly says where to pry ( or is that prise) and to not be shy about it. There are 2 Tabs as I recall, to be released then heave ho.
Ahhh here are the steps now!!!

Thanks Phil. I have managed to break the mirror down into its 4 component parts, (not literally). I found a couple of the parts are assembled under tension and when I popped them apart they made a hell of a noise and I expected to find pieces of broken plastic on the floor. Not so. To my relief I haven't broken anything yet but I have to reassemble those suckers when the LED's are wired in place, so wish me luck! So far, so good.

The illustrations on how to remove the top cover show a large screwdriver being used. I wouldn't dare go at it like that; like a Roman Centurian prodding Christians into an arena full of lions, I prefer a gentler, more persuasive technique, (such as offering a bribe). Each to his own self be true.

That's the way it came from CanAm.
I think I covered a screwdriver with a cloth. No noticeable damage.

Can't wait to see your mod!!

HERE'S A 'HOW TO' FOR NEWBIES
BTW- for all- here is how I got the CanAm instructions to post ALL from my iPhone.....

  1. Took the pics of each individual step from the paper instruction sheet (5 pics, 2 min)
  2. Used PhotoShop Express app to turn them to B&W and to crop them (get rid of extranious stuff... 3min)
  3. Used Photobucket app to load the 5 pics to PhotoBucket (30sec)
  4. Inserted the PhotoBucket Links into the post (1min)

Do you gain anything by taking them apart vs. drilling a small hole and fishing the wire through. Suckers must be hollow and have lots of room in there.:dontknow:

Can't say they are hollow but there is room. When I wired my puddle lights, I drilled a hole and fished wires ( pics in My Mods that detail it). I only took it apart to put on the chrome shroud.
