Any Yokohama rear tire users? Which?

Spydermen,
I read several posts where they talk about how they like the Yokohama S tires. I went to the local Y dealer today and he listed several "S" tire types. I think there were some marked "Touring", and I think one was an "Aviid S", etc. Could you (y"all) send some details on the model you purchased? We have a '12 RT-L and a "13 RT-S. The rear tires look good, but I get kinda goosey when a tire gets old, even if it has been garaged it's entire life.
Thanks for your help. Mrs Dinger and I are newbies, and we just logged our first two parades yesterday! We had a blast in our local parade, in which we were registered to participate. We heard there was a parade at 2:00 in a town about 20 miles away, so we rode up there to "watch" the parade. We just happened to drive into town on the street where they were lining up for the parade. I asked the lady if we had to be registered to participate and she said "no, come on in!" Our Spyders are blue and white, so with my wife's decorating skill, we were already "paraded up". We had a blast!

We have an Avid Touring S, if I recall correctly. Can’t tell you the size for sure right now, we are sitting in Charleston, NC waiting on our connecting flight to Peoria. After we settled on 17-18 PSI for the rear tire it has been great. I would definitely buy it again but I plan on a set of Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires for the front and if they are as good as everyone says I’ll get one of them for the rear when the time comes.

205/50/15 Yokohama S Drive running 24 psi in rear so far about 5000 on it still looks good and handles very well. Lots of tires and choice out there the good thing is there are some very knowledgeable people in this group that are always willing to help you when needed. Good luck and ride safe.

Yokohama S-Drive in size 205/55 R15 is the one that is a near exact match to physical size of the OEM tire. We have sold and installed quite a few of these.

Here are many who installed a toyo proxes 4 tire for the rear tire, and you can have the original dimension be 225 50 R15
and it gives a good return.

Depends on if you want to correct the factory built-in speedometer error while replacing the rear tire. A 205/65/15 resulted in near 100% correct speed when compared to GPS on our 2014 RTL. Based on UTQG (softness, durability ratings) I chose the Yokohama AVID Envigor over the "S" Drive model. It's been on for about 5200 miles now and hardly looks worn but delivers plenty of traction.

I was/am about to pull the trigger on a General Altimax RT45 215/60R15 rear tire. I just received an email from Simple Tire about a 15% off sale. I see they have a Yokohama Avid Touring S 215/60R15 for $65.42/delivered. Any users? Thx

That Avid can't compare to the General ..... I like the General tire line ..... but I bought a RIKEN Raptor HR in 215/60R15 for $80.00 delivered ..... and it's also higher rated than the Avid ..... TireRack ships free also ..... JMHO ... Mike

The Avid tends to get a bit slick later in life. And it isn't as good in the rain as the Altimax. But at that price, it would be tempting depending on your needs.

Wow, that's a great price.
Looks like the price went up, $76.97 now. I'd still be thinking about it at $65.42.
I'll keep looking.

I used that tire and liked it just fine. It lasted about 23K miles. No degradation in performance noted as it wore. Over the course of owning 3 Spyders with about 150k miles total, that tire was near the top of the list of tires I've tried.

Rear Tire questions

OK, let me start with opinions are like Belly buttons.

But I wanted to hear from those who have been on a Spyder for a while and get their feedback
and hopefully BajaRon will weigh in.

I went to Dealer today to get a quote on getting my rear tire replaced... I know it's not a cheap date.
But they do mount car tires and recommend it. IF I buy the tire from them, they will cut the labor costs of job.
They were offering a Yokohama, said it was harder tire, not good for aggressive, curves, or rain but should go 50k.
Or for a Vredestein Softer tire, better for aggressive riding and rain, but would only last 30k.
From someone who never got over 22k on Goldwing tires, 30k still sounds pretty good.

I haven't seen any posts anywhere from anyone talking about using Yokohama.

Your thoughts?

Being a fellow Minnesota spyder owner I recommend the Vredestein over the Yokohama due to our cooler climate spring and fall. Florida or Texas maybe for the Yokohama.
Personally I'm running the General, but that wasn't one of your options.

Good Luck, Bill

My best tire choice for Spyders are the Vredestein line ( F & R ) ..... However I did find a tire that is close to the Vredestein in the rear ... It is made by RIKEN and is their Raptor HR in 215/60-15 currently selling for $ 85 shipped free ..... good luck ....Mike

I've used the Yokohama tire on the rear. Avid S Touring. Nice tire. Delivered excellent life and performance. No complaints and no issues whatsoever. I'd recommend it.

The Yokohama is a decent tire. But it tends to get slick in cooler weather and as it wears. Both the Altimax and the Vredestein are superior tires. I just wish the Vredestein came in a wider tire for the rear. Though at speed, even the narrow Vredestein puts more rubber on the road than the much wider Kenda.
