We just obtained a new to us 2010 Can Am Spyder RT SE5. It had sat in a garage on a tender and started at least every two weeks with some short rides up a gravel road. When we received it, the brakes were essentially non-existent and the fluid was almost amber looking.
After hauling it home, during the unloading process the mashing of the brake caused the “brake failure” code to appear. Front, rear, and VCM were flushed with new fluid. After this service, the brake failure fault was reset using the limit switch reset without using BUDS.
An oil change was performed and new gas was added. A 90 mile shake down ride was performed and about 70 miles in, the engine just stalled. Speed was about 50 mph and temp gauge was in the middle. The engine wouldn’t start. After sitting a few minutes, it finally cranked, but it seemed to be hunting to find Neutral. The bike made it home another 20 miles, then once at home after shutting it off, I attempted to restart it. It would just crank but it wouldn’t start. After the 4th attempt it did start, although an error code appeared then disappeared - "EBD Fault". After some research, I decided to buy a new battery.
After replacing the battery last week, we went for another ride. 15 miles up the road, we parked and shut the engine off. Upon trying to restart, it wouldn’t start up. After a while, it started and the EBD message appeared again. What we noticed is that IF we shut it off and ensure it is in Neutral it fires right up and has no issues; but if we turn it off in gear, it will not start up immediately, and when it does, it provides that fault.
Other things of note, we rode deliberately ensuring we weren’t riding the brake pedal, as we have seen some posts saying that this can be a cause.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Being an older model, I was trying to avoid an expensive trip to a dealership. Thank you for any help!
