Any ideas on what might cause this abrupt loss of power?

I have 11,000 miles on my F3T and have had no problems, except that I had to replace the rear tire at 10,000 miles; my mechanic said BRP recommendations for tire pressure are too high for hot Texas roads. Anyway, today as I was riding, I experienced a sudden loss of power, almost like something was clogging the throttle; if it were in my old car, I’d say the fuel injectors were clogged. As fast as it happened, it ceased. No limp mode message and no problems on the ride home.

So, my question: what might cause that? I’ve never been in limp mode, so I’m not sure what that feels or looks like. I only use premium fuel, so I doubt that has anything to do with it, either. Any ideas? I’ve heard the battery can cause weird episodes like that, but it’s only one year old. Thanks in advance.

Question: Did you just fill up with gas when this happened? If so, it might be bad gas you got. It doesn't matter what grade of gas you put in your Spyder as all under ground gas tanks can get water in them. You may also have a clogged fuel filter. Another thing to do is have your battery load tested at almost any auto parts store. Most will do it for free. Also sometimes when you turn the bike completely off and let it set for a minute and then restart the problem is gone. Which sounds like is what happened to you. Electronics will do some weird stuff from time to time. If it happens again there is something going on and trip to dealer might be in order.

Time for a new battery is my best guess. I had what sounds like the same thing happen to me last month on my ‘21 and it only had occurred once. I pulled off the road, shut down the engine then restarted and all was well again. I will be purchasing a new battery in the springtime to be ready to roll out again.

I’d check the battery cables. If clean and tight, and battery is good, I’d guess a bit of bad gas. Run this tank out, refill with good quality 91, and ride that one out. Can’t hurt to add some Seafoam cleaner. Call me if you need help. Joe

You do realize that the QUALITY of 91 is no difference than the QUALITY of regular.

Yeah, but there's 'good quality' 91 (& Regular) and 'lesser quality' 91 (& Regular) ;)

I think that over in your part of the World, they call the 'good' stuff 'Top Tier Fuel', and I'm pretty sure that cptjam was trying to imply that ElleSal might want to try to make sure that they refill with that 'good quality' gas, not just any old dodgy discount bros crap or 5 year old gas out of a rusty jerry can.

Just Sayin' 😁

As Ex-Rocket said underground tanks get water. (condensation)
But water is heavier than gas and goes to the bottom of the tank.
The pickups in the tank are about 2ft from the bottom to prevent you from getting water.
If you get fuel right after they get a shipment, this get stirred up and can cause problems.

If you think its fuel related, try some "dry gas", seafoam or similar product may help. But my experience with bad gas is longer lasting than momentary, like it sounds to me. It will sputter and miss and not accelerate good, then clear out. Sounds more electrical. Possibly ground related or could be just a momentary voltage indifference the regulator couldn't filter. Battery would be next suspect if it continues. Load test would be a good place to check if you have time.

My 2021 RT did the same thing in 2023. It did it twice one day and then again the next day. Rode it 1000 miles home with no problem. It was a bad fuel pump. Dealer in Wyoming told me that the fuel pump will not throw a code and that Can-am had problems with their fuel pumps. Had it replaced and no problems in 8000 miles

A couple seasons ago I had the same thing happen to me, stopped for gas and pow loss of power and performance! I limped it home and grab a bottle of Seafoam, gave it a good shot and took the rest with me for the day, before I got a few miles out it started to get better. So, if I were you, I would start there, and like said above check the battery, ect! I like using Seafoam a few times threw the season to keep the throttle body clean and keep the water out!
