• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Any ideas on Sporadic parking brake alarm?

My wife’s 2015 RT-SES has been just randomly sounding off like she hasn’t engaged the parking brake before turning it off. No pattern that I can find… brake is engaged because we can’t move it… after 20-30 secs the alarm turns off.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent. The alarm stopping after 20 seconds is by design. Sometimes you DO want to turn off the key with the brake not engaged. Your problem is most likely the sticky micro switch. Pull off the right side panels. You’ll see the front pulley for the parking brake cable. If you turn on the key and operate the brake, you’ll understand how it works. That micro switch you see is actuated by the tab on the pulley when the brake is disengaged, and released when the brake is engaged. If it sticks, the system will think that it’s still disengaged. Just clean it up with some compressed air and a squirt of dry lube. Inspect it to check that the little operating arm is not bent. Operate it by hand to test that it all works freely. Do some general clean and inspect as long as you’re in there.

Firstly, attempt the shut-down, just slowly - Double checking your steps. Yes, the brake is engaged, but if sensors detect slight movement (even if engaged) they sound the alarm. Additionally, check that the battery terminals are clean & tight, this can resolve some random issues. Add star washers between the terminals & the posts.
