There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

AntiFreeze Color

Question:

What color is the antifreeze on a 2014 Rt (series) Spyder??

No guessing please.

I understand some BRP antifreeze is green and some is red and they say "DO NOT MIX COLORS", why not??

Dealer said if i have to change from one color to the other be sure to flush system with clean water 3 times first.

Don't know..!!

not guessing. Because of our weather I drained 30% of the coolant out added fresh water with water wetter (red) with no ill effects. Ice is blue and can be added to your exsisting coolant as well. But if your flushing your system go with all the same kind...

I was just wanting to carry some extra, did not want to change it, and i'll be damned i can't get a tube in the tank to take any out so i can see what color it is.

Pale...!!

if it is like prior years it is a very light color cause the only way to see it is to shake the unit to get the water to move around. Check with your dealer, if posible, they could have small containers of antifreeze as well as tell you what they use...I use prestone aluminum safe...

Orange

The antifreeze in my 2014 RTL is orange. The dealer explained that mixing it with the green stuff could cause harmful effects. It never got any more specific than that. Hope this helped a little.

Mine is orange.

P.S. I also have a note that I made when we bought our 2014 RT, based on what our dealer told us at that time..."takes orange antifreeze".

My 2011 RTS is green. It has not been changed yet so it is due.

Also just a warning. I have read here in the past that when people go to flush the coolant (even the dealer) that when they go to remove the drain plug, the entire plug flange breaks off the radiator! I read several reports of this. When this happens at the dealer it is covered obviously. When you do it, it's not!
So if you plan to flush yourself what some have said is don't mess with the plug as a "just in case" and instead remove the bottom hose to drain the radiator.

My antifreeze container reads that you can mix with other antifreeze that is made for aluminum engines.

I realize that we aren't driving cars but this is from the Cart talk site:

Dear Tom,
I own a 2006 Chevy Impala with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The odometer is at 25,000 miles and the coolant has never been changed. The other day when I checked the overflow tank the coolant was low so I added a gallon of green anti freeze to the tank. I told my mechanic this and he said to have the system flushed immediately or trouble will crop up. Is this true?
Stanley from Reno, NV

Stan,
Yes, get that cooling system flushed immediately or you are in for massive trouble (if it hasn’t already occurred)! Your car takes the coolant Dexcool. What you added is Ethylene Glycol, a chemical that is not compatible with Dexcool. Flush the system now before you end up with major engine failure.
Tom
This is one of those questions that I get after the fact and usually engine damage has already occurred. The green and orange coolants do not mix. There are some coolants that claim compatibility with Dexcool, but I would rather err conservatively and add what the system is supposed to take rather than take the gamble. Guard against major engine failure read on.
Can I add the green coolant to the orange stuff?
As I stated above, the two chemicals of Ethylene Glycol (green) and Dexcool (orange) are not compatible. When mixed together they form a gel-like substance that stops coolant flow and consequently the engine overheats.

What exactly happens when these coolants are mixed?
The coolants chemically react and form a gel rather than a liquid. The coolant stops flowing through the system, clogs up coolant passageways and water jackets, radiators, and heater cores. The water pump overheats and fails due to a lack of lubricant in the coolant. Head gaskets blow, heads warp, and the engine suffers major damage.

Not all orange coolant is Dexcool. Neither the owner's manual nor the service manual nor BRPs web store make any mention of restrictions.

2014 RTS - orange - saw it during first oil change at dealer when we checked the coolant level. HORRIBLE location!

anyone figure out exactly what they put in the 14/15 RT? Mine is red/orange. Guessing GM-Dexcool but:banghead:

I flushed mine last service I did on it and replaced it with BMW 82141467704, which is the same stuff I use in my BMW which also has a Rotax motor in it.

But yeah, you're looking for a
Ethylene glycol-based solution which is safe for aluminium, whatever the color.
