• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Another SENA SM10 QUestion - About Operation

When using the SM10 for audio streaming which input connection do you hook the BRP (on board) radio input into? If I hook the BRP radio radio to the SM10 'Audio In' and my cell phone to the SM10 'Aux' won't the radio over-ride the cell phone and render it unusable?

I'm thinking I need to have the BRP radio audio come into the 'Aux' port and the cell phone to the 'Audio In'. I believe if you are using the SM10 for dual audio streaming both receiving headsets will also hear any received phone calls.

Also, I'm almost convinced that for rider and passenger to hear the onboard radio and use their individual phones two SM10 type bluetooth units will be needed.

BTW - I'm using Scala G9 headsets.
 
Found the below review of the SM10 on Amazon. It looks like the 'Aux' is priority and that's where I should connect my phone. Problem I have discovered on another site is that you can only listen to you phone! As in using it for GPS or Music. No two way conversation!

I bought one of these for use on my motorcycle with the Sena SMH10 headsets that my wife and I wear. Since we both share the same taste in music and the SM10-01 prevents us from dragging out the 3.5mm y-splitters to hardwire up to our headsets, I figured give it a shot.

So far I have been giving it a workout with my Samsung HS3000 , Jabra clipper, and Motorola SF600 Wireless Sports Headphones - Retail Packaging - Black for the past few days. It consistently streams clear, stereo, bluetooth audio to all my A2DP/AVRCP capable headsets.

I do want to clarify something that I have seen some confusion on:
This device connects to your phone with a wire only (included, but it's a standard cable). The device then broadcasts whatever is received over the wired input, to (2) wireless bluetooth headsets which are A2DP/AVRCP capable. It will give the "aux" port priority

- This device does not pair to your phone.
- This device does not take a wireless signal from your phone and rebroadcast it out to (2) separate endpoints*.

However understand that the SM10 is not a 2 way device! Thus you cannot talk back to your phone from the headsets!
Most people use AUX for GPS audio input.

If you want to have 2 way to your phone from your headset, you pair the phone to your headset. But only one person can hear the call (the person the phone is paired to).

What headset do you have? You should be able to pair the headset to your phone, then you pair again to the SM10.
What I did was this:
1) Paired the 2 headsets together.
2) Paired headset1 to my SM10.
3) Paired headset2 to my SM10
4) Paired to my phone to headset1. Note you cannot pair the same phone to headset2 as your phone only supports one pairing.


See the case study #5 in the SMH10 documentation. It shows pairing to a phone, MP3, GPS, another headset, but the process is the same for the SM10 as it would to a MP3 player.

Is the Scala not able to pair with more than one source? My Sena headset is able to pair with 2 bluetooth devices at the same time.
 
Just found this on another forum. I'll have to try this sequence to see if I can get things working. Although I don't have IPOD touch I will try and pair the SM10 in it's place.

CARDO SCALA G9 Pairing

The better way to pair both devices is to pair the iPod Touch to the the G9s A2DP pairing slot, which is added with the G9s newest software update.
After you have updated your devices, please use the following steps to reset all devices and create new pairings between them properly.

To reset your scala rider G9 headset(s):
1. Turn the scala rider G9 module on by pressing and holding the Mobile button until three (3) blue flashes appear.
2. With the G9 flashing slowly in blue, press and hold the Mobile button until you receive a red and blue alternating flash. It will appear as if the G9 is powering off, but do not release the Mobile button until the red and blue alternating flash appears.
3. Release the Mobile button. With the device flashing red and blue alternating, press and hold the Volume Up button for approximately five (5) seconds. The red and blue flashing should change to a slow, solid purple flash.
4. The headset will flash purple slowly, approximately five (5) times, followed by three (3) red flashes.
5. The module should then be powered off, indicating that the reset has been completed. If you are using two (2) G9 headsets (such as the scala rider G9 PowerSet), repeat these steps for the other G9 module.

To re-pair your scala rider G9 headsets:
1. Turn both scala rider G9 modules on by pressing and holding the Mobile button until three (3) blue flashes appear on each headset.
2. Make sure both modules are in stand-by mode, which is indicated by a single blue flash every three (3) seconds.
3. From one G9 module, press and hold the desired channel button (‘A’ or ‘B’) until the module begins to flash red or blue rapidly. (‘A’ button = red flash, ‘B’ button = blue flash; PowerSets are factory paired on channel ‘A’) This is the Intercom Pairing mode.*
4. Repeat step 3 on the second G9 module.
5. Both modules should continue to show a rapid red or blue flash until they have found each other. At that time, each module will simultaneously show a solid red or blue light for a few seconds. Both headsets will return to stand-by mode simultaneously after that, indicating that the pairing process has been completed.**

*Once the G9 module is in Intercom Pairing mode, it will return to stand-by automatically after two (2) minutes if a pairing is not completed.
**If both modules do not show a solid red or blue for a few seconds and one headset returns to stand-by mode before the other, the headsets did not complete the pairing process successfully.

To reset your mobile phone, go to the Bluetooth menu of the phone and locate the ‘scala rider G9’ as a paired device. You will then need to remove this pairing from the phone. Depending upon the model phone being used, this option will vary from ‘Forget this device’, ‘Unpair’, ‘Delete pairing’; among other wordings. After the pairing has been removed, please power the phone off for at least one (1) minute and remove the battery if possible.

To pair your scala rider G9 headset with your mobile phone:
1. Turn the scala rider G9 module on by pressing and holding the Mobile button until three (3) blue flashes appear.
2. With the G9 flashing slowly in blue, press and hold the Mobile button until you receive a red and blue alternating flash. It will appear as if the G9 is powering off, but do not release the Mobile button until the red and blue alternating flash appears.
3. Once the G9 module is flashing red and blue alternating, search for a Bluetooth device from your mobile phone.
4. The phone should momentarily discover the ‘scala rider G9’. Select it to pair. If prompt for a pass key, this will be four zeros (0000).
5. The phone should momentarily confirm that the pairing has been completed, and the headset should return to stand-by mode. Repeat these steps with the remaining headset and other mobile phone, if applicable.

To reset your iPod Touch, go to the Bluetooth menu of the device and locate the ‘scala rider G9’ as a paired device. You will then need to remove this pairing from the device. On the iPod Touch, the option should be ‘Forget This Device’. Once the iPod Touch has been reset, please power the device off for at least one (1) minute.

To pair your scala rider G9 headset with your iPod Touch:
1. Turn the scala rider G9 module on by pressing and holding the Mobile button until three (3) blue flashes appear.
2. With the G9 flashing slowly in blue, press and hold the Volume Down button until you receive a red and blue alternating flash.
3. Once the G9 module is flashing red and blue alternating, search for a Bluetooth device from your iPod Touch.
4. The device should momentarily discover the ‘scala rider G9’. Select it to pair. If prompt for a pass key, this will be four zeros (0000).
5. The iPod Touch should momentarily confirm that the pairing has been completed, and the headset should return to stand-by mode.


Once these steps are completed, you should now be able to use your iPod Touch for music audio, and your mobile phone for phone call audio.
 
I did the Scala G9 software updates last evening. Tonight I plan on updating the software on my Garmen GPS then trying the multi-device linking as outlined on the BRP instructions above. I'll post results when I'm finished.

With the SMH-10 Sena headsets, I discovered I can conference in the other headset while I'm on the phone. Answer the phone with the small button, then conference in the other paired headset with the large jog button.... pretty cool...
 
FAIL !


Well it didn't work as I had hoped. I went through the exact procedure as detailed on the CARDO SCALA G9 Pairing instruction I posted above. The only thing I did different was pair the SENA SM10 in place of the Ipod Touch. Individually each helmet/phone/SENA pairing went well and everything seemed to work. Then when I tried helmet to helmet intercom, everything went to :cus:! Once we started an intercom call between both of us, it was hit or miss if the music came back on. If it did come back it was usually only to one helmet. Then most of the time the intercom would not connect again at all without powering down and restarting the head sets or hitting the pairing button on the SENA. If either set had a telephone call come in, the music may or may not come back on and the intercom would not work.

I called CARDO (scala company) this morning. and spoke with a really helpful and knowledgeable tech support guy. He concurred with everything I had done concerning firmware upgrade and pairing. He said that they have had a lot of issues raised by G9 owners that had pairing problems when using any dongle, including the SENA SM10. Apparently it has something to do with 'priority' and this causes an incompatibility and the only fix is to power-off and reconnect each time. This is a non-starter for me..

While testing we turned off and on one or both headsets to see if they would pair and the music would continue to play. In several instances after cycling power to one of the three devices only one headset would reconnect properly and we could not get both headsets to play music. When this happened turning off the SM10 and then back on would sometimes fix the issue while other times we had to turn off both headsets and then turn them back on before we could get the music playing properly out of both headsets.

...Or, maybe the Scala's were the bad purchase...:dontknow: There have been a few folks who switched from Scala to the Sena SMH-10, and everything fell into place...
