Another Seat Question

Just got done putting my new Russell Day Long on the F3. Arrived about 20 mins ago. Looks great, feels great but I can't get a ride in until tomorrow. Don't even have a picture yet. Will post pics tomorrow.

I just had a pair of custom seats built for my 2015 F3 by Bill Mayer Seats in Ventura California. I wasn't satisfied with any of the commercial seats so I looked at custom ones. They built the seats to exactly fit my wife and I and I couldn't be happier with them. The price was reasonable, less than $1200.00 for the pair. If you want to see what they look like, Rocky, the owner. has a photo of my bike on the home page of his website. We were able to go to the shop, but they do mail order seats as well as working remotely on the rally circuit. This is the website: http://www.billmayer-saddles.com. Hope that helps.

The home page shows an RT seat. Can't access the gallery. :dontknow: Tom :spyder:

Me bad. Just saw your F3 seat. Looks great. Tom :spyder:

Been extremely pleased with my RDL on my F3. I could not stand the stock seat for more than about 2 hrs.

We just completed a 5239 mile trip to Durango the Deadwood Rally, Yellowstone, Santa Fe and back to Houston. Seat was GREAT the entire 3 weeks. Can't wait to head out to the Red Rocks Rally next month!

Thanks Railwhale......looks good......BUT....
BMS still requires you to send aN OLD seat, so it's just as complex and expensive for Aussies as RDL. I'll probably go with RDL unless I decide to choose the easy option and try a Mustang off the shelf, as one of theirs has worked ok for me in the past. The Cannonball is OK for an hour or so, but just doesn't cut the mustard. I'll keep it on for a couple more weeks to see if it beds in, but I'm not hopeful.

Just a suggestion. Lots of folks have replaced the stock seat with other ones. Perhaps you could buy a used stock seat from a member here in the states and have them ship it direct to RDL on your behalf. Would save you half the shipping costs.

Yeah, thanks JC......that's what I planned to do......did the same thing with the Vision. There is NO way I would ship anything large or heavy from Oz to the US :yikes: ......I still have to pick up the stock seat from the dealers (I've currently got a Cannonball), so that I can take photos to send to Daylong. I'll ride the Cannonball (not super comfy at the moment) to see if it beds in until I get a chance to do that and then make the call on whether to go with RDL (unless I take a huge leap of faith and go with Mustang in the meantime. )

Mustang for the Second Rider?

The Mustang seat is like night and day compared to the stock seat. There is a big difference between the two.
Check Value Accessories for the mustang seat. I ordered my seat and received it in one week. Plus they had the best price for one also.

Nice to know where to find the best price.
How's the comfort for the Second Rider (aka "passenger")?

Could you do us a favor and take a shot straight on from the side, so it shows the "king-queen" effect, or the difference in seat heights between the two, please?

TIA

Pete

Pete, hope this is what you wanted:

Russell Cycle Products is only about 2 1/2 hours away from me. I rode up with my stock seat pan in a box (I had already upgraded to the Cannonball seat from BRP) I had them add 2 inches of height to the passenger seat so my wife doesn't have to look around me any more. The guys at Russell said I was the first F3 that had come to the shop. I was helped by Jay in the office, they took pictures and I sent them pictures of my wife in the passenger seat, with and without the back rests installed. The guys at Russell are really great to work with. I recommend RDL.

So, what you're saying is that the Cannonball seat in these pics has been modified by RDL?? The reason I ask is because my wife has an issue with the stock F3 seat. The issue is that she is constantly sliding forward due to the angle of the stock seat. Does the STOCK Cannonball seat angle back towards the passenger backrest??

Thanks for your help on this matter...

Yes, having watched my seats being built, they use the seat pans from the stock seats so they fit the bike when finished. OZ is a long way to come for custom seats. You might be able to find a good custom seat maker in your corner of the world. I could have lived with the stock seat, but my wife just slid around on the passenger seat and refused to ride the bike with me. That made a good, well made and fitting seat for her a priority.

Na.....no good Aussie ones, Railwhale....I've tried all the recommended ones. It will either be a Mustang, or a custom Daylong with heavy duty springs. I've had 4 Daylongs and they have never let me down.....

There's no way 'round it, Pete is absobloominlootly right on this one!! :yikes:

If you want 'custom seats' that are worth sitting on for most bums, let alone paying for them, we are pretty much forced to go off-shore to find a maker!! :sour:

Aussies do a lot of things well, & quite a few of them exceptionally well; but making comfortable custom motorcycle seats doesn't fit into either of those categories here!! :(

Seat

I bought a Diamond Custom Seat so far the wife and I are very happy with it.:D He is a site sponsor. Call them give them your inseam and weight and he will make it to fit.

I've had many motorcycles over the years, the last one being a 2006 Road King. What's one of the first things I ever did after getting a motorcycle? Replace the seat. Mustang seats were always my favorite. I currently own a 2015 F3 that I bought in June this year and I have to say I am happy with the stock seat for now. BRP has done a pretty good job of designing and shaping the seat in my opinion. So sorry aftermarketeers. I currently have no plans to replace the seat.

I don't know what Value Accessories' price is, but I got a really good deal on a Mustang seat from iMotorsports. You can get their contact info on the SL home page.

The stock seat pan is what I took to RDL. I rode up on the cannonball seat. And the cannonball seat may soon be up for sale, I don't need a second seat. I purchased the cannonball seat after riding the stock seat for a couple weeks.

As to the contours of the Cannonball seat, there is a slight rise at the front of the riders seat and the passenger seat also has a slight rise at the front. Neither my wife nor myself experienced any sliding forward on the Cannonball seat. Hope that clears things up.

Its subjective, but I love my Corbin seat. Its very roomy and does not push against my tailbone and can ride a long time.
