Another Nice Dealer

One of our club members was riding with family in Northern Minnesota and hit a piece of firewood laying on the roadway. No bumpskid and very shortly a punctured radiator among other damage. He had it towed into Brothers Motorsports in Brainerd, MN. They had no mechanic on duty since Sat isn't a big Spyder day in Northern MN.. The mechanic checked out the Spyder first thing Monday Morning and had parts overnighted, then finished the repair by the end of the day Tuesday so our friend could get back on the road to Florida today. Thank you Northern Minnesota dealer for some great Spyder service.

Do you think if he'd had a bumpskid it would've prevented the damage? I'm only asking because I'm trying to decide whether or not to get one.

In my opinion it would not have prevented the damage. The bumpskid only covers under the frunk.

If you're deciding on getting one, I would say do it. It looks very nice and dresses up the front end. I had one on my '13 RTL and have one on my '14 RTL. My wife has one on hers, too.

Last Saturday a chuck of asphalt fell off a truck on the freeway and bounced directly at me. That chunk hit the edge of the bumpskid with a huge bang. I checked the front of my RT and found the bumpskid took a majority the hit. The chuck of asphalt left a very small ding on the edge of the bumpskid and it must have gone under the bike. The bike suffered an almost unnoticeable ding to the lower edge of the black portion on the nose of the bike. I am convinced if that bumpskid did not absorb most of the impact, I would have had some serious damage. To me, it has already paid for itself.

Bumpskid from Spyderpops

Nice to hear something good about a dealer, its rare! Hope they didn't take advantage cost wise.

I would definitely recommend the bumpskid from Spyderpops. These Spyders do not have much ground clearance as many of you owners probably know or will soon find out. I found out that even some frost bumps in pavement are sometimes enough to scuff up the underneath if you don't catch them the right way. I installed the bumpskid on my machine, it was not hard to do, although it does help if you have a hoist and can get the Spyder up in the air. The bumpskid is a strong plastic material, about 1/4 inch thick, weighs about 5 lbs, completely covers below the rads, and comes past the point of the original plastic skidplate which is very thin and would not stop a strong protrusion. The kit comes with all hardware, well written instructions, and looks good once installed. Good insurance I think!

I think the odds of avoiding the damage would have certainly been better with the bumpskid than without....
