Annoyed by people asking how much $$$$ ...

my standard reply

+"This is an '08, and cost 15800. 2011s cost under 17."

Obviously, I'll modify my answer as the years pass...

Ride on.
Roadkill

Just an opinion. If someone is interested enough to walk up to a stranger and ask a question, then what's the downside of answering it. People ask me, I tell them 22k sticker, I picked mine up for $14500 with 400 miles on it used!!

When they ask how much?
I ask do they ride bikes?
If they say NO.... I say " if you have to ask, you can't afford it ".
If they say YES... I asked them how much did their ride cost.
Conversation over.

I had the general manager of a HD shop ask me if I paid cash or financed my Spyder. I was like :yikes:. I can't believe you just asked me that!!

Some time I tell them it very cheep conserding in the winter i can put skis on it. yes that right i have the kit to turn it in to a snow mobile in the winter. There reaction is very fun to wach.

OMG thats good...But i have NOT yet been asked the price. In fact I have only been approached twice by onlookers. Maybee its because i have a dealer 15 min away and 3 others within a hrs ryde????

I would have said no I pay by check. :joke: I have yet to have someone yell to me how much, or start the conversation with that question. If I did I would not reply if they were yelling to me, and if they came up to me I would tell them the price range. When some one is asking real questions about the spyder, and come up to the price. I will tell them the price range, and what I paid for mine so they know that like a car they can haggle the price.

About as much as

My stock answer has been " About 80% of a nicely equipped Silverado extra cab." That usually does it. The best one I got was from some squid on a moped that asked and I think I replied," I think a dozen or so mopeds, I forget..."

The two questions I get the most are "How much and how fast" to which I always answer "Too much and too fast!".

I got it at the scooter store at NO COST TO ME :roflblack:

Question I've been getting lately is :"Do you like it?" not "How do you like it?" I tell them "No, I hate it - people always asking Do you like it" :doorag:

Asking prices for Spyders

I have the RTS/SE5 (2011) and most of the people that stop to talk to me are more interested in "What is it" and "How does it handle." I give them all "Thumbs UP" on everything. Most people have never seen or heard of the Spyder, and that is why they will also ask prices. I tell them it costs as much as my Toyota Avalon Ltd. You can't blame them for asking, due to the fact that most people know nothing about them. I have owned about 35 boats in my lifetime, and people always seem to ask (if they are new to boating) "How many gallons per hour does the boat use?" I mention that the basic boats I drive use anywhere from 6-8 gallons/hour. I don't tell them " If you have to ask, then don't buy one." Don't you think that everyone who is out there buying new cars doesn't ask about mileage per gallon ? It is important if you have to keep an eye on your budget. When you have been boating and cycling for many years, we already know the answers. However, we don't know all that when we started out. People DO love the Spyders, and as everyone has said before, " You can't make a 5 minute stop to get gas without spending at least 15 minutes answering questions." They all love the design and the fact that most of the women love the idea of three wheels. They feel much safer when riding that type of vehicle. Even tons of men, who might be getting older or having some leg problems, can't push around a 900+ pound machine. I bought the Spyder because I wanted a fun machine, but not a machine that I have to push around on sharp turns or u-turns on a small street. I do feel safe when riding on the highways. The retail prices around here start at $19,000 and go to $28,000.

You need to understand the intent of the question. They are actually admiring the technology you are lucky enough to own. It's a compliment no matter how the question is asked.

I generally get 2 different reactions. It is way too expensive or it is much less than they expected. Very few have not been surprised one way or the other.

I am in the military, and had - what I'm pretty sure was an officer - pull up in an expensive(er) sudan. It was either an Audi, benz, or BMW, but was asking ligit questions about the spyder, but then ended up asking a price. I told him $16 to $30,000 depending on models, he instantly changed to some arrogant jackass - "Oh thats way to much for a motorcycle," "I own a kawasucki and would never pay that much" yada yada yada to much money...

It took everything not to snap back and say, "look at the car you are driving you pompass tightwad!"

Just let it go, we don't need someone like that riding (and representing) the Spyder. It should not bother us that others don't have a clue. We know what a great ride is and we can enjoy it even if some choose not to give it a try.

That is the question I get most, and followed by "is that as much fun as it looks?"

I say "this is the Canadian BRP RT-S with the semi automatic shift (pointing to the paddle), I then point to the backrest, telling them it is an Utopia made especially for my Spyder, I then show them the Kuel foot rest and Spyder foot pegs, then paying special attention to the antenna, I explain that I have the CB, XM radio and ending with the special ZUMO that Garmin built for MY Spyder."

At this point, they can't wait to get away from me....with the adults telling their youngsters "don't get too close to him."

One guy hung with me and kept asking good questions. At the end, I told him the truth. He said, "sounds like you got a good deal." He went away happy and so did I.

Lately I've been barraged by people asking how much my Spyder cost to buy......and some are downright annoying and rude.

Anyway --- how do you all handle this ??

Some people start by asking how much, I very my technique I use in answering the question. For some I say that they start out at 21k & go to 35k, if there expression is "yikes" I let them know this is the touring version and that they might like the sport version that goes from $13k-18k. I tell them that I got the whole kitten- kabudle with a trailer ,and immediately they say they saw the trailer hitch, so I say yeah I have gone across country in this, I tell them I spared no expense, that this is paddle shift with am/fm/ xm radio,iPod & cb so I can stay in communication with the world all through my helmet, while using the GPS to navigate with...I tell them this is the most fun I have had in my life, that I use to have a car that I would take to the race track twice a year, and that this is the most excillerating feeling , and that I knew it after a 5 minute test ride. Some I say to never try it out, and others I would give them a pocket brochure and tell them where my dealership is.

Only person I got frustrated with, was a man at a gas stop coming back from eureka that said he would never get one because of the gas mileage, I was so upset that I let my tank overflow while talking to him .....LOL:opps::D

I like the answer the same as a goldwing too!
