There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Amsoil

Yes, that is the one I'm using since 3000 miles with no problems. Now have 12,000 miles.:2thumbs:

Happy Spyder Owner

That's the stuff. I bought the 1 gallon jug and it's perfect for the Spyder oil change. Dump in 3 qts, start it up, check for leaks, and dump in the rest. Oil level ends up right on.

Yep, that's what I'm using. Only have 1100 miles since last oil change, but so far so good!

Been using...

the 10w-40 synthetic motorcycle for years now and I have been using the amsoil products since 1980 and I have never been disappointed with the quality or service.

If you want it I can have it shipped to you at my costs.

The manual calls for 5W-40 and I see lots of folks using 10W-40. As I am riding all Winter I am not going to buy an oil that doesn't have the 5W rating.
That leaves me with the Castrol synthetic as the only choice I have seen .

5W40 good for temperatures of -30 to 100+ degrees F.

10W40 good for temperatures of -20 to 100++ degrees F.

I use 10W40 since I won't be riding much when it gets below -20 degrees.:D

......except according to BRP's oil specification in their manual, which doesn't mention temperature like most do. Come to think of it, it doesn't mention their "Summer Weight" blended oil, either. :roflblack:

And their oil doesn't have any specs on the label either.:dontknow:

Oil

Can this type of oil be used after the 600 mile oil change? or should it be done after the 3000 mile oil change?

thanks

:chat:

I think you can put this type oil in at any time. Just make sure that on the oil container plainly shows the JASO/MA motorcycle rating. The Amsoil motorcycle oil does for sure.

Shell Rotella T

Many Goldwingers use Shell Rotella-T synthetic with great results. GW's are rather heavy shifters and it made a big difference. Certainly made a big improvement on mine. It's a lot cheaper too. Designed originally for diesels but it turns out that it matches the requirements for M/C's also.

I haven't had to change oil yet so I'm not sure what I'll use when the time comes.

Since most engines have...

been run-in some at the factory and they come with synthetic oil there is no reason you can't use the pure synthetics anytime you wish.

I used the Shell rotella synthetic in the blue bottle for the first 2 thousand miles to break-in my new wing. Then I changed to the best pure synthetic on the market. I've always used this procedure.

The Shell Rotella does contain some of the ingredients that motorcycle oil contains
I.e. Zinc (for the transmission.) It is however a SM rated oil. The SM rating is only earned from the API by having a certain level of friction modifiers (Not good for any wet clutch) and that is why it is not ceritfied for motorcycle use. It would not qualify for the JASO/MA certification; Therefore, I will not use it in my Goldwing or my Spyder.nojoke

The old 5W-40 Rotella (not the others as I recall) carried an API SL rating. The new containers are SM.

Yes, I think that is correct. The SL is marginal for wet clutches. Most motorcycle oils are actually rated no higher than API SJ & JASO T-904/MA.:f_spider:
