• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I changed the stock battery for a shorai #LFX24L3-BS12 lithium iron battery and dropped 12lb 2.25 oz!!!
the new battery almost feels like it's empty and the stock one feels like a cinder block. If you get the Shorai,
just be sure to connect the little jumper plate between the 2 close terminals, it has something to do with shipping
regulations. they're supposedly going to put a sticker on battery telling about it. It is kinda pricey, but it lasts up to
4 times longer and doesn't self discharge(i'm sure everyone knows lithium benefits by now) you also need to get a charger
with it from shorai specifically for these batteries.

Thanks!
Now that we've got some specifications to ponder; how do these stack up to OEM and the other popular choices? :dontknow:

i actually got it from www.nicecycle.com for $329.80 shipped with charger, they had the best $ I could find and they got it to me really fast
and the sales guy was very knowlegeable. It's supposed to have higher cranking amps and to maintain a constant voltage during cranking
to start faster along with the weight savings and the low self discharge. I just love cutting edge stuff and decided to upgrade.

Battery ($250) + Charger ($82) + Tax ($20+) + Shipping ($???) = >$350 :yikes: OUCH! :yikes:

:wrong:

Maybe...maybe not! If it does in fact last longer and keep the juice flowing as needed to the bike; why not?
But of course; I've not yet priced an OEM battery yet... :opps:

No offense to this battery but BRP has a awesome OEM battery for the Spyder. I'm still running my original battery from a 2008 Spyder. You can't ask for more than that. Inojoke I'm sure the new battery is lighter but, over 12 pounds difference seems a bit to much of a claim. I'm not even sure if a OEM battery wieghs 12 lbs.

 If I get to a point where I need to replace a battery, I'll be looking closely at the Shorai Li-Fe. I am very impressed with them. How did you deal with the smaller case? Was the strap tight enough, or did you need to rig an alternative? How well do the cable mate up?

you dont need the charger, you can use a regular charger as long as its not a high frequency desulphating type.
the battery comes with really nice foam pieces with adhesive to accomodate for the smaller size.
yes, I did weigh them both on a digital refrigeration scale and the weights are correct. I know it's hard to believe,
holding them both really feels like the shorai is empty, it's really amazing technology

My battery lasted me 20 months, and while I did not put on a scale it was a heavy battery.

Wow !!!!!! BTW........ welcome to the forum !!!!!!!! :2thumbs:

The biggest advantage is going to be that if they sit fully discharged for a while they won't be sulfated and junk like a normal battery will

Getting ready to replace my battery and my dealer's parts fiche online lists the battery at $129.00. I have seen Yuasa knockoffs for $99.00 but am leery, even though the CCAs are 300 and the Ah rating is slightly higher.

:lecturef_smilie: Not so fast Bob....

The problem, and thus the weak link, with all of our Spyders is found in the charging system. Failure of ANY charging system to properly charge the battery while simultaneously supplying sufficient electrical power to the end product(s) will result in a battery being in a constant state of discharge which eventually will lead to "battery failure".

Magneto type charging systems are TERRIBLE at doing their job at LOW RPMS!
Ride above 4k rpm to keep your charging system CHARGING (ref: Midwest Manual page 392 - @4k rpm output voltage should be 13.0-14vdc)! Your battery will not only thank you but will live a longer life!!!

My 2-cents: Use a battery tender daily to maximize the life of your battery and eliminate battery worry.
