• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Alaska Touring

Anybody been up the Dalton Hwy on an RT? Any problems?

Thanks

Mostly for the brave. An adventure type bike is recommended for "far North" riding. There is one Spyder dealer in AK, they have shops in Eagle River/Wasilla. Hundreds of miles away. A tow and repair could cost you thousands. My RT's stay on the main highways.

A group of us rode from various places in the lower 48 to Alaska via the Alaska Highway. But to get to the north slope, we flew. The Dalton is gravel from just north of Fairbanks, and I wouldn't want to trust the Spyder to last all that way. There's also heavy hauler traffic, and I'd be afraid they wouldn't see me!

There's lots of things to see in Alaska that are at least as close to civilization as to the bears.

What a coincidence, another Iron Butt Spyder rider and I were just talking at Spyders in the Ozarks about whether a Spyder has ever done the Dalton Hwy (a mandatory road for a Coast to Coast, or CtoCtoC) and another requirement is that you have to use the same ride for the entire trip.
Has anyone built, upgraded, or customized any model of Spyder to Adventure Bike capabilities? Just a WAG it hasn't been done, we could imagine that very few would even attempt 800+ miles of gravel roads to make it up an back to Deadhorse. Lot's of 2 wheelers do that route, but they're purpose built Adventure bikes...
And for the doubters that it could be done, it's been done on a Goldwing, a HD Road glide, and a Kawasaki Vulcan, which are NOT Adventure (Dual Sport) bikes....
