• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Answer(so I'm told): On starts that require pressing the mode button(not quick restarts) the computer establihes a new baseline from which, leaning or richening fuel - occurs. So the baseline from which fuel mix is adjusted Is a moving target. Based on things like temprature and altitude at time of start up. I'm told this came about as a correction to a past problem experienced with Aprilias.

Oh, well I guess it don't matter then. I wonder how they get away without it? Most EFI engines monitor the intake air temp and use that data to adjust mixture based on the temp of the air the engine is actually taking in. If they are using the ambient air temp sensor on the frunk then that must not be data they use for mixture adjustments.

I am in the process of adding a Magnum Tuner that allows adjustment to compensate for changes made by my exhaust, Y-pipe and air cleaner. The MAPS and the ambient air temperature sender work together to maintain the leanest setting possible for emission purposes as I understand it.

I suppose they could get away without a IAT but the map sensor is a must, that is the sensor that compensates for barometric pressure or altitude per say. If they are using the two sensors together then the ambient air must not be a major player in the mapping of the ECM or it would indeed be in the air box as close to the throttle body as possible. I guess they just found a better or different way of doing it.
 
Hi guys,

There is one item that BRP did right on the 2014, the fan operation.

When stopped, the fan reverses thus allowing air to be pushed through the rad, as opposed to being suck through the rad. obviously this will remove hot air of your feet.

This got me thinking, couldn't this modification be done on any Spyder.

Color me confused!

I'm confused by the foregoing. Is there a consensus on whether replacing the stock air box will cause leaning out sufficient to contraindicate?

You probably won't find a concensus; there are a lot of individual factors that can come into play here...
Personally; I am NOT a fan of removing airboxes... :shocked: My reasons are pretty much just personal preference-driven; there's no science behind it...

:agree: More air without more fuel equals the potential for an expensive disaster... :shocked: The warmer climate might just make a lean condition become an issue much quicker, than would happen where it's colder.
Caution!

Actually, it's the other way around. More likely to run lean in cold air. Cold air is more dense.
Cold air and/or lower altitudes you try to tune richer to prevent running lean. Hot days or higher altitudes you lean out your mixture to prevent running to rich.

I run the kewl metal on my GS... Yes, she seemed to be running a little lean and starved after that. Bought a juice box pro and set to map 1 ( For stock GS/RS with tweaks from two bros) and she ran great... 20 miles later and no issues other than she'll run rough after sitting at a light on a hot day.
