There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Air Box

Can anyone here justify the design of the air box on the Spyder ST? I'm just to common Joe trying to change spark plugs and removing the air box is simply a joke. What were they thinking when they designed this machine?

I concur with your comments about the air box and plug replacements. Last fall my ST was due. After looking at the multi-page procedure, I opted to pay the dealer to do this.
I was at a Club meeting last night (we have many different bikes in the Club) and we are not alone. Some Harleys and BMWs have the same issues.

Try this....

Someone once posted that you can reach the front plug by using extensionsome and going through the top. Remove the instrument cluster and get it thru there. I had already discarded the air box for JT's air filter system thus no longer have this problem...nor did I try this method...:dontknow:

I bought JT's Air Filter for my RS just so I could get rid of the airbox and make maintenance a lot easier - the induction roar was a bonus:-)

Mind you I've also got Ron's Iridium plugs now so don't have to change them so often anyway.

I bought a Performance Air Kit about 5 or 6 years ago getting rid of the air box and the $1.99 air filter I found in it and have no Regerts..........Regrets.

I had the Spyder for about 6 months in 2009 and had a bad gas smell. Took it to the dealer and not having a certified spyder tech there, they told me it was fine. I took it to another shop on the way home and the owner introduced me to a tech, that used to be the spyder tech at this dealership. He took it for a ride and told me what to buy in parts and than bring it back to him. Getting that front plug out, the electroid was burnt down to nothing. The tech said looking at the rear plug its new the front one because its hard to get to with the box, looks like the original plug it came with and was never changed out because of the difficulty getting to it. Basically you have been running on one cylinder. I took the plug to the dealer and was told that wasn't the reason for the gas smell and who told you that? Told the service manager, the tech that used to work here on spyder's.

The oem airbox does keep the intake air quiet.

The replacement smaller one makes the intake roar a lot more on acceleration

The extra room for maintenance more than makes up for the extra intake noise on acceleration.
