After 30K miles... still have my original front tires...

Just wondering how your front tires held up long term. The sales guy at the dealership couldn't believe it when I told him a few months back that the front tires on my 2008 Spyder were the same ones I rolled out with nearly 3 years ago. The tread still has nearly 40 - 50% of it's life left. I am only a few ticks from 30K miles....

I had 9600 miles on my '09 GS when I traded. The front tires showed very little wear. My RTS started showing wear on the tires almost immediatey. The dealer realigned them. Now at 12000 miles the insides of the front tires are ground off. I did slow the wear down, by inflating to 22lbs.
The first time he didn't charge me for the alignment. I waited about 6 houre for tech to get it done. When I talked to him about redoing it, he stated that this time would be on my nickel. 6 hours at 90$/hr.= $540.I felt that this was a bit much for correcting a "screw up", that wasn't my fault. I now have all winter to contemplate my next move.

3 questions.

1. Do you check the pressure in your tires often?
2. Do you "ride like you stole it" or more like an easy Sunday ride?
3. Do you put anything in the tire like Ride-on?

I burned the inner side of right tire and replaced both it at 8K after an alignment. Since then new OEM tires with Rideon and 7K additional they show no signs of wear. Not sure if it's the alignment, Rideon or both. :dontknow:

I check my pressure at least twice a week...Spyder is my primary vehicle.

Mine will easily go the 60k miles I'm sure. I rarely check my tire pressure and I have had ride-on in them since 16k. I did had a valve go bad a few months ago while traveling to Arizona, but that's it.

I figure that those of us with front tires over 25k - 30k miles were rare. Seems I may be right.

The inner edge of my right front was completely gone at 14K, and I had to replace them. With the new stock tires I added Ride-On, and the Spyder is ryding smoother than it ever did before. I am hoping to get 30K out of this set of fronts like you have, but will be happy to get at least 15K at this point.

Same here. 31k and they are just barely showing signs of wear on the inner part of the tread. I'll rotate them sometime in the next few months so the wear will even out.

I replaced my front tires at 21,000 (+ or - a few) miles. My dealer told me that typically, I would get about the twice the mileage on my fronts as my rear tire. And, that's what I have seen so far.

Heavy man on back

Spydergirl is my wife and up until July when the 2nd Spyder came to be, roughly half of the 28000 miles at the time was ridden with me on the back. Maybe the extra weight on back has allowed the front tires to wear less.

On the other hand, maybe we've just been lucky. :dontknow:

Hey Geoff! What's up dude! Nice to see your post. Sorry to have disappeared on you guys but we are slowly making it back to something that resembles "normal" life. Whatever that means...

Anyway, It would appear that there are 2 distinct groups here when it comes to front tire wear. I'm not sure if there is any distinct pattern to it or if it is completely random, but your fronts are either cooked between 8K - 12K ot you are good to way past 20K. So how are your fronts holding up?

Since the Spyder comes to the dealer in a crate and they finish assembly there, I wonder if that final assembly technique enters into the equation? Riding style is also a big factor. In that regard you would think I didn't stand a chance of having my fronts past 8K! :D But I am past 8K now and my fronts look great. I have a feeling that I wll be out of back tire WELL before the fronts...
