• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I am thinking about using 3 car ramps to lift my bike for oil changes. 1 BEHIND each wheel then backing up the ramps! Has anyone every done this before? Good idea or bad idea?

That didn't work for me as the ramps kept moving, so I just use an atv lift to get my Spyder up and then place 3 car jacks under it to keep it up.

I assume my owners manual, will show me where to place jacks correctly to lift it up?

Using 3 ramps

I had the same problem with the rear wheel ramp spinning out. I just drive up the front wheels onto the two ramps and then place a jack with a small block of wood under the rear shock mount to lift spyder and then set rear wheel on third ramp.

With my Sears atv jack I place one of the arms so it is just on the main frame closest to the rear wheel and as close to the center of that arm as I can. The other arm is fixed so it will be towards the front. After I have lifted the Spyder up I then place one car jack under each A arm as close to the front tire as I can and the third one under my trailer hitch. Without a hitch I would place it on the swing arm close to the shock mount (not on the shock mount).

Using the rear shock mount as a jacking point has caused some to bend the shock bolt.

I use 3 auto ramps to do oil changes and also when I want to give it a good cleaning.Never once a problem backing it up on them.

Yeah, I think it depends on your garage floor and the types of ramp, Bill. My plastic ramps used to move on my sealed concrete floor, so I bought a thick rubber mat, cut it in 3 and glued them to the bottom of the ramps. It works well for me now.

Ramps

I did it and the spyder didn't want to go up easy, but I just put the ramps in place and had a freind help push it up. it was easy then set the brake, and it gave me plenty of room to work without standing on my head.

Try this....

If you have the ramps then try the suggestions above. If not...

Yeah, that's what I do mostly too, Gene. Pop a couple of axle stands under the front and use the lock on the lift and it's very secure.

Hi GOZFST,

Re: Using the rear shock mount as a jacking point has caused some to bend the shock bolt

Having read that little piece of advice on here numerous times, I did something a little different.

I lift my front with my floor jack, put two very secure jack stands under the A-arms, one on each side.

Then I made a 'lift helper' for lifting the rear tire. I used a 3" piece of black ABS pipe, cut it to about 6 3/4" long. You will want very clean, 90* cuts at both ends.

I put this onto my floor jack and then lift on the frame just in front of the shock mounting points.

Then I put a large block of wood that I have under the rear tire & set the parking brake.

Works good so far,

Jerry Baumchen

PS) I did not patent the '3" piece of ABS Pipe Lift Helper,' so anyone can use it without fear of impending litigation.

Good idea. I did something similar when I had my GS, but broke down and bought a Harbor Freight ATV jack with a 25% off coupon. I can use it on my ATV, John Deere and other things.

I had the same trouble,so this is the way I do it now.Nice thing about this method is you have nothing under the Spyder to get in your way.

J&S Jacks are the way to go
