• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

adding oil between oil changes

2013RTS

We took a 900 mile ride over Labor Day weekend and used about a quart of oil and when I checked it today it was about 1/2 way to the add mark. When we left the house this morning,my buddie was following us and he said the spyder was blowing a lot of blue smoke for the first 200 yards or so.what do you think, maby valve seals? This bike belongs to the Red Head so it will be serviced by the dealer and any thing that it needs,it will get done. Her bike and her money. We are both 73years old and she has no desire to learn to ride so when we go anywhere together we take her spyder and when she is not along,I take my two wheeler.9,990 miles on the spyder in 90 days and 7,000 miles on the two wheeler sence the first of the year.Still have some trips planned for the rest of the year.I think you can say we have had a desent year so far.

This sounds more like a rich mixture or condensation. However, if it is blue it could be oil.

My friends RT 2012 w 3000 miles has an oil leak. It's at the dealer waiting for service. Anyone had this problem? Can it be serious?

It can be serious, Then again it might ''Not'' be serious... It depends..
Is it just blow-by from over filling the OIL tank, Thats ''Not'' serious,
More info would help....

Big oil leaks are serious, small oil leaks are just annoying. If you check your oil every few hundred miles as specified, and don't have to add much (if any) each time, it is not serious. If you can't keep up or the oil pressure drops between changes, it is way too much. There is a service bulltetin for leaks at the water pump...either oil or water. That may be your friend's problem. Good to get it fixed either way.

Nahhhh...; it's not serious!
Harleys have been lea...
Oh! Hi Bobbo! :opps:

Yea, I heard that about Harleys, They must have figured that out when they built mine.
Over 20 thousand miles on my Tri, And i never added a drop of oil between oil changes
[5 thousand mile oil changes]:D:D

The Spyder is the only IC engine I've had to add oil to between changes since I sold my '81 C-10 Custom Deluxe... I forget to check it often.

Thanks for reminding me to do that and you just gave me an excuse to go for a ride to warm it up to operating temperature first.

My buddie traded his2010 Harley for a new 2013 because the 10 sounded like it was going to fly apart and they couldn't seem to get it fixed. On our labor day weekend ride, his new one used 2 1/2 quarts of oil in 900 miles. He aint very happy. It goes into the shop tomorrow.I guess I shouldn't complain about the quart that the spyder used on that trp.

Thanks for being good-natured about the ribbing! :D

All of it is meant to be just in good fun! :2thumbs:

Besides; I can see where Spyders are developing some reputations as well...

My 2012 RTS used about 1 1/2 quarts in the first 1000 miles. It slowed considerably after that. Maybe a few ounces every 1000 now.

No problem, BOB'

In a million years i thought i'll never own a Harley, But when i had enough of my Spyder i stopped in at Baer H/D [honesdale pa.] and took a Tri [demo] for a test ride, And i only rode it a little past Rustys, Came back and said take my Spyder and i'll take a new Tri, Just something about Harleys, So much so i recently bought a new 13 1200 Sportster, And traded in my Kaw 6n.
Kenny Rogers was once asked can you explain all your failures and you always made it back to the top?
And he said' i can't, It's just an ''Intangible'' and it can't be explained.
Thats the way i feel about Harleys, I just cant explain it..:dontknow:
