Update on Kathy

Praise Report for Kathy - 8/6 - I did not go to see her today. With the new schedule I am only going three days a week. This gives her son, Josh, and her daughter Tiffanie, two days each. What I have gotten from the nurse is that she is still mending, has been initiating coughing on her own (this is good) to finish clearing the phelm out of her lungs. She had about 10 cc of urine overnight, which might be slightly more than she has been. They did have to give her 2 units of blood today. This is a direct result from them pulling fluid out of her blood on Saturday. Her body was unable to replenish it well enough and her hemoglobin stat dropped below the 7.0 threshold. She is bored and in pain and wanting to go home. She continues to improve but it is a slow process. She is now again able to handle her meal solution, so she will get the nutrition she needs. Please continue to pray for her kidneys, lungs, and her overall health. We need to claim these in Jesus' name as though they are already done.

The healing process is like a thousand-mile journey: you still have to take one step at a time...
More prayers and kind thoughts for all of you!:pray:

Update on Kathy

Praise Report for Kathy 8/7 - It has been one month today since the accident. We have some folks that have joined in these updates in the middle of them, so I thought I would tell about the accident, how God intervened, and what damage Kathy sustained. After that I will give you the update for today. For some reason in my Spirit I feel we have turned a critical corner in her recovery. Don't know why, but I do. So here goes:

July 7th, just before noon we were about 7 miles North of Coriden, IN. It was a beautiful, low humidity, cloud-free day, and we were looking forward to trying a new restaurant there. Kathy was in the lead, which was the way we rode 99% of the time. I was able to keep cars from inching in and bothering her. I was about 50 feet behind. I just wish I had got this on video. Suddenly, a large deer ran across the road in front of her. Before she could do anything another, smaller deer jumped onto the road right in front of her. Before it even touched the road they hit center mass on deer and byke. The deer went left, killed instantly. Kathy, instead of going over the handlebars, went right. The only explanation I have is that God moved her in that direction. Then, it was like there was a big hand there, palm up. She floated into that palm and stretched out like she was going to sleep. Her head was now facing the side of the road and her feet the other side. She is about 3' off of the ground, traveling sideways at about 50 mph. When she started to drop it was like the fingers of the hand wrapped themselves around her, holding her arms and legs tight against her body. She hit, bounced slightly, then rolled about 7 times to a stop. There is no doubt in my mind that God saved her.

Here injuries are:

7 broken ribs right side, 3 broken in multiple places

A broken left collarbone

A broken sternum

Extremely bruised right lung that collasped about 5 days after the accident

A cracked nasal cavity and severe laceration between left eye and nose

A deep gouge in her left heel

Several broken toes on the right foot

Blown off nail of big toe right foot

Dislocated pinky toe right foot

Road Rash over 40% of her body

What she didn't have:

No brain bleed

No concussion or loss of consciousness

No arm, leg, hip, or shoulder tendon damage

No broken bones in her arms or legs (other than the toes)

She was not wearing a helmet or any protection gear

When her lung collapsed on 7/13 they had to place a breathing tube down her throat and put her in a medically induced coma. She was in a coma for approximately 14 days. During that time I authorized a chest tube, a tracheotomy because of cleanliness and it would be easier to ween her off of the vent. I also authorized a feeding tube inserted into her stomach, several central lines, and other misc. procedures.

A few days after the put her on the vent she got a staph infection that got into her bloodstream and damaged her kidneys. They stopped functioning. Shortly thereafter, she got a very bad case of pneumonia. They were finally able to knock both of them out. She has been on dialysis for several weeks now. That should bring everyone up to speed. On with today's' update: I was with Kathy for about 3 hours today. She was very tired and slept most of the time. We did get to open a few cards and we mostly held hands while she rested. Her kidney MD came in and said she was encouraged that her urine output was the most since her kidneys shut down. She would like a large volume and that will come in time. The dialysis really takes a lot out of her. Her stats are looking good and she is getting more rest now. Her O2 is turned down to 40%.

We are still asking for prayers for her kidneys, lungs, and overall healing. Thank You, Prayer Warriors!

Thank-you Doc for the update, for your faith, and I know the round the clock prayers are for both you and Kathy, as well as family, friends, and caregivers.
We continue to lift you all up in prayer and sing praises for the improvements.

Considering she wasn't wearing a helmet or any protection gear, someone was definitely watching over her.

Hope she starts feeling better soon.

Update on Kathy

Praise report for Kathy - 8/8/18 - It was not my day to go down today so this will not have much info. She is steadily improving. Her kidneys did not have any output today, but we are still believing they will eventually heal. She is tolerating her dialysis much better. They did the rapid dialysis and in 3 hours pulled off 3 liters of fluid. We'll see how she responds tomorrow when I go down for my visit. Everything is looking better, she just has a long road to recovery. Let's focus our prayers on her kidneys. I think we need to do that until they start working again! Thank You all for all of the cards. We will shoot a short video tomorrow or Saturday to show them hung in her room!

Update on Kathy

Praise Report for Kathy 8/9 - I walked in just as her kidney MD'S were there. Timing couldn't have been better. They are going to do a longer dyalisis today to pull more fluid off. Probably 12 hours. They are noticing a slight increase in her white cell count and a slight temperature increase. They are not that concerned since she still is breathing ok. Her urine output is larger than 2 days ago, so the Prayers are working. Let's pray for continued healing of her kidneys, no infection, continued strength. Thank You for your prayers.

This is all good news. With her and your faith, toughness, and determination I'm quite sure she'll be back on Spyder in due time! Maybe it's might be time to start entertaining thoughts about celebrating her survival and healing by getting her a new Spyder! You might even name it PTL!

I have been toying with the idea of getting one of the new sub10k units for her. Time will tell.

Doc,
It sounds as if she's fighting a low-grade infection. Keep a close eye on how they fight it!
I'm glad to hear that her output is increading…
(And I bet that she's horrified to know that we're hearing all of this...)
Let her know that all of you are "family" to us, and we're all pulling for her!

Doc (and Kathy and others), Our little men's prayer breakfast continues to lift you up in prayers, to sing God's praises for the beginning of the healing processes and specifically for continued kidney healing, continued healing all over, and a smooth recovery and physical/emotional rehab.
Doc, we lift you up to keep the faith and strength as you support Kathy, your family, and your business, which has blessed many of us distant spyder riders.

Update on Kathy

Praise Update for Kathy - 8/10 It was not my day to visit today, so this from her daughter, Tiff. She was pretty good today. She was tired after her workout this morning, but responded well in between cat naps. The nurse said she participated well in PT today and even sat up on the side of the bed for 20+ seconds. She got a little dizzy from not sitting up for so long (nurse said that was to be expected ). But she did it with some help and they were pleased. No fever at all. I read her cards and taped them up. I taped several scriptures up around the room as well. I showed her a video Keela (her daughter in Texas) made talking to her and she loved it. I prayed over mom and with mom. She prayed and agreed with me. Please continue the prayers!! They are working!!

Doc, my wife and I just got back from a 3 week tour. Me riding the Spyder with RT622 trailer in front and my wife following on her Goldwing. There was not a day that I did not pray and think about Kathy. One of the very first things we did after getting home was to check this forum for Kathy's progress. You are both in our thoughts and prayers.....

Update on Kathy

Praise Report for Kathy for 8/11 - I got here early this morning since there will be some popup showers starting in the afternoon. Kathy has been dozing off and on and resting very easy. Her stats look good and she is now tolerating her feeding solution at a reduced rate. Her breathing is better and most of the phelm is gone. They will be up later for another round of dyalisis. Her kidney output is still very low, so we need to specially pray for her kidneys. We are planning a corporate prayer at exactly noon next Sunday, the 19th. We ask that wherever you are, please stop a moment and pray for healing, especially her kidneys. Those of you that church, please ask your Pastor to coordinate the prayer as close to noon as possible. Let's all pray together for her healing. What a powerful witness of what God can do she will have when this is all done!

Update on Kathy

Praise Report for Kathy 8/12 - This was not my day to go down so this is from Josh, her son via text. She was moved out of burn ICU to the regular ICU because they had a burn patient that had priority. She did not like being moved, has been very depressed today. She had her stitches by her nose taken out today. Everything else remains pretty much the same. We are asking for prayer for her kidneys, her depression and overall healing! Don't forget the corporate prayer this Sunday at noon at Eastern Daylight Time. Several Churches have said they will get other churches involved!

Doc, we'll be lifting up those prayers every day, as well as prayers of comfort and grace for you and your family.
