• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. accessorie prices out of control

I priced my stuff too low as I forgot about "Spyder Tax" :hun:... some of my items just break even.

JT

And we look forward to your new stuff too!

A better quality and reasonably priced cat bypass is needed when you get the air cleaners to market.....

they do it because they know we have to buy certain items, gaskets, filters, ect. I do agree, 2 rubber o rings for 9.99 each are plain robbery!

I don't see anything from the vendors that is really out of line with anything else related to having these things... Decent protection (Helmets, boots, jackets) are sky high. That was the first "sticker shock" We encountered when first getting into this. After feeling like I got "violated" just buying the necessities, the accessories don't seem too bad...

Some accessories are higher than they need to be. Eventually, someone will realize they can come in for less money and still make a decent profit. Competition is the cure for high pricing.

Some things that seem like they should be less expensive are actually a good value. Customers do not always see the hidden costs like liability insurance and other things that have already been mentioned.

Shipping is also getting more expensive all the time. There is no such thing as 'Free Shipping'. Anyone who believes that should go to their local shipper and ask how much they can send for free!

If something is a bit outrageous I usually wait to see if someone else will jump in. High profit margin is the best way to encourage competition! :ohyea:

Otherwise, you pay's your money and you take's your chances...

I save $$$'s by changing my oil and filters before I get my Spyder's services done. This saves at least two hours of shop time on the bill?

I myself am waiting for a more reasonable cat bypass pipe to hit the market.

As far as LED lighting goes, Reggy has replaced several failed LED products. I feel that I've gotten great warranty out of the TricLED folks because they stand behind their products. You might try DDM Tuning for some unique lighting products?

Instead of cutting a hole in my seat for a backrest, I opted for a Saddlemen BR3400 bag. It sits on the passenger seat backwards and I still have access to fueling my Spyder without removing the bag. It comes with a harness for securely attaching the bag to the seat. As a bonus, it holds a lot of stuff and has a built in rain cover for those moist days.

image.jpg Mine is this one with all zippers. The one below is different with buckles. There is a padded pad that comes with it that attaches with Velcro but I haven't used it.

you got a link where you bought that? can u post a pix of it on your spyder? I see they run $140 shipped at Amazon.

Try buying accessories over here in the UK. With only two real dealers (plus two that play at it) it's list price all the way and list means you just swap the dollar sign for a pound sign despite the exchange rate being £1 equalling $1.66. In other words, prices here are two thirds higher. Is it any wonder that since 2007 BRP have only sold 380 machines in a country of 70 million people!

Usually, if it says free shipping, it's already figured in the cost of the item. The company I worked for didn't charge shipping for parts. Unless the parts were oversized and had to be shipped other than UPS, FedX, or Next Day Air. My customers complained all the time about the cost of parts.

Lamont is not selling the cat bypass yet. I think he said it would be sometime next month.

I can't recall where I bought it. They are a bit pricey but it's a quality product. It's also ridged and won't sag.

This is the last photo I submitted for my third 5K pin from BRP? You can see how the bag sits on the seat.

Here's a good video I found that shows the bag and how it's mounted. The guy should have used better lighting as you can't see the details as it's a black bag. Duh?

I have the same opinion about the high prices for accessories and service on our beloved machine. Accessories for any brand seem to be at twice what we would think would be reasonable.

As others have mentioned. Take a trip to a well stocked HD or Honda dealer and see what they are getting for their stuff.

With some experience as a cost accountant, after all the expenses are accounted for, the mark up % is determined, and then there is a finagle factor. They look at what others are charging and what the market will bear. Sometimes, that comes into play.

Some things are happening to make the :spyder2: situation better. The service interval has been adjusted on the 2014 RT's and they have done away with the expensive valve adjustment procedures. There is already a half price backrest from a competitor that makes great products. Other products are sure to follow.

No kidding but when you by a rec vehicle you are paying double , to be honest it's highway robbery ,y wallet is 3 pounds lighter unfortunately

Quantity is a HUGE factor for cost. To make 100 pcs it might cost you twice as much as if you made 1000 pcs. If you make < 25 because the market share is small it might cost 4 times as much as 100 pcs due to set up time for each operation as well as the percentage of scrap to set up is much higher for small quantities. Henry Ford figured that out a long time ago when he invented charcoal.

I thought Al Gore invented Charcoal, the same day he invented the Internet.

the price on Chaparral Racing.com was less than BRP list, is what most dealers wanted.
Parts guy at the local dealer says dealers can sell at whatever price they want. They just are not allowed to advertise their selling price, especially on the web. Do that too much, they can lose the franchise. That's why eBay prices for OEM stuff are list price.

One thing makes me mad the only BRP electrical item I want is the fog lights. I will not pay $500 for a set.
Especially considering they are incandescent lights, not LED. LED driving/fog lights is another project I hope to get posted here in a few days. Great little lights for $55 each. I mounted them on the fenders. Local service tech was impressed! :)

It seems to me that prices are about the same as other motorcycles and motor homes I've owned. This stuff has always been over-the-top expensive. I've never owned a specialty car, so I can't comment on that. But it seems to me that the the prices for all motorcycle stuff is just too high. Hundreds of $$ for a jacket or a helmet??? I don't think that farkles for Spyders are higher in comparison to other makes though.

The good news is with both J Thornton and Lamonster both about to start manufacture of cat bypasses, the price is about to drop.
